Open Pit Theatre (OPT) is seeking a detail-oriented and financially savvy Artistic Producer to support the effective management of the company’s productions, operations, and administrative systems. Working closely with the Managing Artistic Director and Board of Directors, the Artistic Producer plays a key role in ensuring OPT’s artistic vision is supported by strong financial stewardship and reliable organizational infrastructure. The hours are estimated to 10 hours/week with some variances around production time.

Open Pit Theatre is a Yukon-based devised theatre company creating original performance work rooted in northern experience. We aim to produce new and innovative theatre that explores contemporary northern themes and embraces inventive approaches to devising theatre. As a small, collaborative company, we value curiosity, care, and experimentation in both artistic and organizational practice.

Role Overview

In collaboration with the Managing Artistic Director, the Artistic Producer ensures the effective management and delivery of OPT’s productions, finances, and administrative systems. This role blends creativity with structure - supporting artistic projects through strong project management, financial leadership, and organizational coordination

Key Responsibilities

Producing & Project Management

  • Co-produce OPT productions, workshops, and events
  • Manage logistics, contracting, scheduling, and artist travel
  • Oversee technical coordination, touring logistics, and production storage
  • Support creative teams with administrative and production needs

Finance & Administration (major focus)

  • Manage bookkeeping, invoicing, and reconciliations in Wave (or equivalent)
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports; support audits and year-end processes
  • Coordinate payroll, CRA remittances, and T4A preparation
  • Collaborate on annual operating and project budgets
  • Maintain efficient administrative systems, records, and databases

Fund Development & Reporting

  • Co-write grants and funding applications with the Managing Artistic Director
  • Track submission deadlines, reporting schedules, and funder communication
  • Support donor stewardship and annual fundraising events

Communications & Marketing

  • Update and maintain OPT’s website and social media channels
  • Design and distribute marketing materials for productions and events
  • Support audience engagement and public relations initiatives

Governance & Reporting

  • Prepare materials for Board meetings and the AGM
  • Maintain company files, archives, and cloud-based systems
  • Ensure continuity of documentation and institutional knowledge

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Demonstrated experience in producing or arts administration
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, bookkeeping, or accounting
  • Knowledge of funding structures and grant-reporting requirements
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate, problem-solve, and manage multiple projects

Assets

  • Experience with Wave or comparable accounting software
  • Familiarity with Yukon’s arts community and funding landscape
  • Graphic design or marketing experience
