Summary Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Indigenous Tourism Coordinator supports the implementation of YFNCT's Strategic Plan by strengthening Yukon First Nations tourism capacity, supporting community-led and Nation-led tourism initiatives, and increasing opportunities for Indigenous tourism operators, cultural centres, and communities across the Yukon.

The Indigenous Tourism Coordinator works closely with Yukon First Nations governments, Indigenous tourism operators, cultural centres, industry partners, and funding agencies to support member readiness, mentorship, market access, partnership development, opportunity sharing, and sector coordination.

Through relationship-building, outreach, communications, and project coordination, the Indigenous Tourism Coordinator helps connect members to opportunities, resources, funding, training, and partnerships that contribute to sustainable Indigenous tourism development, community well-being, and the long-term success of Yukon First Nations communities.

The Indigenous Tourism Coordinator plays a key role in advancing YFNCT's role as an Indigenous-led connector, convener, advocate, and sector-builder by strengthening relationships, supporting member success, increasing visibility and market opportunities, and fostering collaboration across the tourism ecosystem.

Employment

Permanent Full Time (37.5 hours/week) - subject to continued funding.

Responsibilities

The Indigenous Tourism Coordinator is responsible for:

Indigenous Tourism Coordination

  • Support implementation of YFNCT's Strategic Plan, annual work plans, tourism priorities, and organizational objectives;
  • Work directly with Indigenous tourism operators, entrepreneurs, cultural centres, and Yukon First Nations governments to identify opportunities, challenges, and support needs;
  • Support member readiness, mentorship, referral pathways, and capacity-building initiatives;
  • Assist with the development and enhancement of Indigenous tourism experiences, products, and services;
  • Coordinate tourism training, workshops, networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and information sessions;
  • Support tourism workforce development initiatives and employment opportunities;
  • Identify and share funding opportunities, resources, training opportunities, and industry information relevant to members;
  • Monitor tourism trends, opportunities, and emerging issues that may benefit members and communities;
  • Support YFNCT's role as an Indigenous-led connector, convener, advocate, and sector-builder by facilitating partnerships, collaboration, and information sharing.

Member and Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Yukon First Nations governments, development corporations, tourism operators, cultural centres, artists, community representatives, and sector partners;
  • Support engagement activities to identify tourism priorities, opportunities, challenges, and barriers;
  • Facilitate communication and information sharing between members, communities, and partners;
  • Coordinate member outreach activities, newsletters, opportunity sharing, and engagement initiatives;
  • Organize meetings, workshops, tourism forums, networking opportunities, and peer learning activities;
  • Support community-led and Nation-led tourism priorities through engagement, coordination, referrals, and partnership development;
  • Support regional outreach and engagement activities throughout the Yukon.

Community-Led Tourism Development and Member Readiness

  • Support community-led and Nation-led tourism initiatives that reflect local priorities, values, and aspirations;
  • Assist communities, cultural centres, and tourism operators in identifying readiness, capacity-building, infrastructure, product development, and market access needs;
  • Support projects that strengthen Indigenous tourism readiness, capacity, and long-term sustainability;
  • Assist with research, information gathering, and opportunity identification related to Indigenous tourism throughout the Yukon;
  • Connect members with available programs, services, training opportunities, and partner organizations;
  • Promote opportunities that strengthen member visibility, participation, and market access.

Partnerships and Sector Relations

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with Yukon First Nations governments, tourism organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, industry associations, and funding partners;
  • Represent YFNCT at meetings, conferences, workshops, gatherings, and events as required;
  • Support collaborative projects that strengthen Indigenous tourism capacity, member success, market access, and community-led development;
  • Identify and advance partnership opportunities that benefit Yukon First Nations tourism operators, cultural centres, and communities;
  • Support referral pathways and collaborative approaches that reduce duplication and strengthen member supports;
  • Participate in relevant sector initiatives, committees, and working groups as required.

Project Coordination and Administration

  • Coordinate tourism projects from planning through implementation and reporting;
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, deliverables, and reporting requirements;
  • Maintain project files, databases, statistics, and records;
  • Track outcomes and performance measures for tourism initiatives, member supports, and strategic priorities;
  • Prepare reports, briefing notes, presentations, funding updates, communications materials, and Board reports as required;
  • Support the administration and delivery of tourism programs, projects, and services;
  • Contribute to annual work planning, budgeting, and organizational reporting processes.

Funding and Resource Development

  • Research and identify funding opportunities related to Indigenous tourism development, training, workforce development, and community capacity-building;
  • Assist with gathering information and supporting funding applications and project reports;
  • Maintain records and documentation required for funding and reporting purposes;
  • Track reporting deadlines and support project monitoring and evaluation activities;
  • Support the Executive Director with funding administration and reporting requirements.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in tourism, project coordination, community development, economic development, Indigenous relations, or a related field;
  • Experience working with Indigenous governments, organizations, communities, or businesses;
  • Experience coordinating projects, events, partnerships, engagement activities, or programs;
  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Experience building relationships and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms, and standard business software;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence; and
  • Ability to travel within Yukon as required.

Assets

  • Knowledge of Yukon First Nations governments, cultures, histories, and communities;
  • Experience working in Indigenous tourism, community economic development, arts and culture, community development, or related sectors;
  • Experience supporting Indigenous tourism operators, entrepreneurs, cultural centres, or community-led initiatives;
  • Experience supporting member readiness, mentorship, training, or business support programs;
  • Experience preparing funding applications, and project reports;
  • Experience organizing workshops, conferences, gatherings, or training programs;
  • Knowledge of funding programs, tourism development resources, and partnership networks relevant to Yukon First Nations tourism; and
  • Knowledge of Yukon tourism organizations, programs, and industry partners.

Specifics of Employment

The Indigenous Tourism Coordinator:

  • Reports directly to the Executive Director;
  • Supports implementation of YFNCT's Strategic Plan and annual tourism work plans;
  • Supports YFNCT's role as an Indigenous-led connector, convener, advocate, and sector-builder;
  • Works closely with Yukon First Nations governments, tourism operators, cultural centres, communities, development corporations, and partners;
  • Supports community-led and Nation-led Indigenous tourism initiatives throughout the Yukon;
  • Coordinates member outreach, engagement, readiness, mentorship, and partnership development activities;
  • May be required to travel throughout the Yukon; and
  • May be required to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings, events, and gatherings.

Salary range: $75,075–$92,625 annually (equivalent to $38.50–$47.50 per hour), based on qualifications and experience.
