Title: Landing Pad Program Support Staff (Part-time)
Reports To: Integrated Youth Programs Director
Position Details
- Hours: 24 hours per week- Mainly Weekends
- Wage Range: $27-$28$
- Location: Whitehorse, Yukon
Summary
This position requires a professional and dynamic individual who excels in high pressure and multitasking situations. We require expertise in conflict resolution, crisis management, organization, harm reductions practices and low barrier housing supports. This position requires a firm background in de-escalating complex behaviors and trauma informed care. We are looking for a strong candidate that meets the previously mentioned criteria and commits to BGCY culture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
General Accountability
- The Landing Pad Program Support Staff is responsible for aiding the Integrated Youth Services (IYS) Director in all landing pad duties and tasks.
- The Landing Pad staff are responsible for supporting anyone accessing our services with care and intention while prioritizing trauma informed care targeted at meeting the youth where they are at and addressing their needs
- The Landing Pad staff are expected to collaborate and support BGC Yukon Youth programs when and where possible. This includes but is not limited to Youth Drop-in, Age out, Integrated Youth Services and all other BGCY programs as directed by The IYS Director
Leadership & Teamwork
- Keeps informed and up to date with names of key community volunteers and, in consultation with the IYS Director and Program Directors, works to further the interests of the BGC movement through active participation in community activities
- Assist in Landing Pad intakes and discharge, inventory, risk assessment and providing targeted care for youth in need
- Ensure you maintain a positive mentorship or role model relationship with the youth we are leading
Youth Development
- Assist in screening, evaluation and orientation of homeless/precariously housed youth
- Handle crisis phone calls, occasional walk-in crisis situations and uphold BGCY crisis response plans
- Assist with housekeeping and maintenance duties throughout the Landing Pad
- Ensure a safe environment for fellow employees and residents
- Prepare our youth each morning and ensure youth are dressed, fed and ready for the day or other activity
- Maintain and dispense appropriate medications
- Engage and participate in client recreational programming.
- Teach clients new skills or activities of daily living such as maintaining personal hygiene when relevant
- Identify potential issues with clients that require intervention or referral (e.g. suicidal tendencies, substance abuse, child abuse, violent tendencies, etc.). Promptly notify Program managers of potential problems or risk management items
- Assist the clients in learning and following the house rules and understanding client rights and responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned by Managers, Directors and BGCY Leadership
Qualifications
- Post secondary degree in Youth Work other relevant field, or demonstrated experience is considered an asset
- Proficient use of Microsoft office applications, understanding of data bases and input, or equivalent
- Valid CPR C/ Standard First Aid Certificate;
- Valid Foodsafe Level 1 Certificate (or must be attained within first 3 months of work);
- WHMIS
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated time management and organizational abilities.
- Current Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
