Position Summary

The Outreach and Communications Coordinator is responsible for advancing Queer Yukon Society’s objectives through communication, education, outreach, partnership development, and public engagement. This position will strengthen education, partnership building and public awareness. It will support schools, public institutions and communities to challenge the norms, attitudes and behaviours that contribute to gender-based violence.

The position works collaboratively with the Queer Yukon Society team to design inclusive educational resources, strengthen cross-sector relationships and increase understanding of gender diversity.

This is a public-facing job, and the incumbent is required to work from the office daily.

Location: In Person, QYS office, Whitehorse
Hours: Part-time (0.65 FTE), primarily weekday hours, with occasional evenings or weekends
Compensation: $39.12-$42.35 (Commensurate with Experience)
Benefits: As per QYS Union Collective Agreement
TERM: Term Position until March 17, 2027 (possible extension based on funding)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Driver’s License
  • Vulnerable Sector security check
  • Some travel within Yukon communities may be required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver education and outreach activities across schools, public institutions and Yukon communities, with a focus on 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion.
  • Participate in research, development and writing of education and awareness materials.
  • Increase the public understanding of gender diversity, healthy relationships and gender-based violence prevention. Strengthen capacity in public institutions to promote environments where queer and gender-diverse individuals feel safe and supported.
  • Design and create engaging social media content for programs, events and community stories.
  • Develop working relationships with media contacts and coordinate responses to information as required.
  • Develop and update content on Queer Yukon Society website and social media platforms in a timely and engaging manner.
  • Facilitate workshops, presentations and public education sessions related to healthy relationships, gender diversity and violence prevention.
  • Complete final reporting as required for funding agreements related to this position.
  • Other duties relevant to this position as assigned by the Executive Director or Board
  • Support public facing pride events during Pride Week.
  • Participate in keeping access and maintenance to Queer Yukon Society office.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or Public Relations is Preferred.
  • 3 years’ practical experience.
  • Non-profit sector experience.
  • Design skills using such programs as InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva.
  • Experience with reporting, evaluation, or funder accountability preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Experience building or maintaining partnerships with community organizations or institutions.
  • Experience delivering education or outreach in youth-focused settings.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Lived or professional experience within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Familiarity with Yukon communities is preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender-based violence prevention, healthy relationships, and/or gender and sexual diversity.
