Position Summary

Queer Yukon Society is seeking to hire a full-time Health Navigator to advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and families in accessing and navigating health and social service programming.

The Health Navigator will understand and interpret medical terminology while supporting clients in the health system navigation. This position combines advocacy, relationship building and hands-on support in a community setting.

This is a public-facing job, and the incumbent is required to work from the office daily.

Location: In Person, QYS Office, Whitehorse
Hours: 35 hours per week (primarily weekday hours, with occasional weekends or evenings)
Compensation: $88,247/year (Commensurate with experience)
Benefits: As per QYS Union Collective Agreement
TERM: Term position until March 31, 2027, (May be extended dependent on funding)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Driver’s license
  • Vulnerable sector security clearance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for client needs and provide clinical options and recommendations.
  • Communicate with healthcare providers and Government of Yukon to identify pathways and barriers to care.
  • Accompany 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals to appointments or meetings as required.
  • Stay current on best practices in 2SLGBTQIA+ healthcare and services available to Yukoners.
  • Work with Queer Yukon’s Health & Education Manager to identify areas where training is required.
  • Manage outreach activities, events and workshops to promote awareness, visibility and inclusivity.
  • Adapt activities to meet needs in addressing challenges and changes while aligning with policy, procedure and guidelines set by Queer Yukon.
  • Ensure all client information is kept confidential.
  • Review client care plans with clients as required.
  • Participate in ensuring safe access and maintenance to Queer Yukon Society office as required.
  • Support public facing Pride events as required.
  • Other duties relevant to this position as assigned by the Executive Director or Board.
  • Maintain accurate financial and statistical reporting to the Executive Director and Board of Directors based on requirements for funding agreements.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • LPN, Registered Nurse, Advanced Clinical Practitioner/Critical Care Paramedic, Social Worker or other relevant care experience.
  • Experience, knowledge, and/or training in Trans related healthcare.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector.
  • Experience building and managing a budget.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Understanding of issues regarding 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
  • Planning, priority setting, time management, organization and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiating skills.
  • Understand and interpret medical information and have experience supporting clients with challenging decisions.
