911 Police Dispatchers are the “first” of the first responders. They receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and other first responder agencies. Their role is to quickly prioritize and accurately process calls to ensure police and public safety.

911 Police Dispatchers work in a Communications Center in Whitehorse, Yukon that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They have two primary roles:

Call Taking: Assisting the public as a first point of contact for RCMP assistance by receiving and processing all emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance.

Dispatching: Providing operational support front-line officers by dispatching, status keeping, querying computer databases and other supportive roles.

911 Police Dispatchers know how to remain calm in even the most dire of situations. They are able to be prepared for every type of call. Police officers rely on the Dispatcher to ensure they have all the information needed to keep themselves and the public safe. 911 Police Dispatchers are the masters of multitasking; always doing several tasks at the same time. It takes an impressive amount of mental clarity, dexterity, and laser-sharp focus to do this job.
