Job Summary:

ALX is seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator to join our team for a multi year project located in Watson Lake. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers and loaders, to support construction and earthmoving projects. The project will run from mid-may until mid-October for the next several years. The role is best suited to a candidate based out of Whitehorse, and who is available to work on multiweek shift cycle to the project location in Watson Lake. The exact work schedule would be flexible based on the candidate. The position would be ideal for a retired/semi-retired person with experience on older equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators and front-end loaders.
  • Perform pre-operational checks and maintenance of equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Excavate, grade, and move earth or materials according to instruction from the site foreman
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other crew members to coordinate operations.
  • Work Independently with no/minimal supervision when at site alone.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, and familiarity with older equipment considered an asset.

Compensation and Work Environment

  • $30-$45 per hour, 12 hours day shifts, significant availability of overtime when on shift.
  • Per diem and travel pay.
  • Company truck provided for transport to and from Whitehorse, as well as around the project site.
  • Accommodation in a shared house provided on site.
