We are seeking experienced and versatile Dozer / Excavator Operators to join our team on major earthworks and road construction projects throughout the Yukon.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating both bulldozers and hydraulic excavators in a fast-paced production environment and will take pride in producing quality work safely and efficiently.
The Dozer / Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of bulldozers and excavators to support road construction, earthmoving, site development, and material production activities. This position requires a strong understanding of grading, excavation, drainage installation, and earthworks construction practices.
The ideal candidate is highly safety-conscious, production-oriented, and capable of working independently in remote northern environments.
Key Responsibilities
Dozer Operations
- Operate crawler dozers for rough and finish grading
- Construct and maintain haul roads, access roads, pads, embankments, and drainage structures
- Push, spread, stockpile, and manage earth and aggregate materials
- Perform clearing, stripping, reclamation, and site preparation activities
- Maintain grades and slopes according to project specifications
Excavator Operations
- Operate hydraulic excavators for bulk earthmoving, trenching, ditching, and material loading
- Excavate and install culverts, drainage systems, and utility crossings
- Load haul trucks efficiently and safely
- Perform slope shaping, ditch construction, and finish work
- Handle rock, overburden, aggregates, and other construction materials
General Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and daily equipment inspections
- Complete equipment logs and inspection reports accurately
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, grade checkers, survey crews, and other operators
- Report equipment deficiencies, hazards, incidents, and near misses
- Participate in daily tailgate meetings, FLRAs, and safety initiatives
- Assist with routine equipment servicing and maintenance activities
- Follow all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating both dozers and excavators in road construction, mining, earthworks, or heavy civil construction
- Strong understanding of grading, excavation, drainage, and earthmoving operations
- Experience working around underground utilities and drainage installations
- Ability to read grade stakes, construction drawings, and site plans
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a remote camp environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship
- GPS machine control experience (Trimble, Topcon, Leica, or equivalent)
- Experience with road building and large-scale earthworks projects
- Mine site experience
- Ground Disturbance Certification
- CSTS, WHMIS, and Common Safety Orientation certifications
- First Aid certification
- Experience operating additional equipment such as graders, loaders, compactors, articulated rock trucks, or haul trucks
- Previous experience working in northern or remote locations
