Reporting to the Board of Directors, and the Executive on a day-to-day basis, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Yukon Foundation (YF) programs, growth and execution of its mission. She or he will initially develop deep knowledge of YF operations, processes and business plans, and will develop initiatives to continue to modernize YF’s approach so it can achieve its mandate more effectively and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Leadership & management
- Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
- Actively engage and energize YF volunteers, board members, event committees, past recipients, partnering organizations, and funders.
- Support and work collaboratively with a strong Board of Directors including all committees; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction, annual budget and key initiatives including the change program.
- Lead, coach, and manage contractors such as the bookkeeper and ad hoc project consultants.
- Develop a change program to continue the modernization of YF operations, processes and business plans.
- Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively and regularly communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
Fundraising & Communications
- Expand donor outreach to raise more money for new and existing YF funds to enable higher future giving levels.
- Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence and social media to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
- Use external presence and relationships to increase donations and applications.
Modernization
- Work with the Executive to design and implement a change program that modernizes YF operations, processes and business plans so it can achieve its core mandate more effectively and efficiently. The Executive and current ED have been investing in modernizing including a new Foundation software system which is expected to significantly improve productivity.
- The new ED will be expected to set up and implement the new system.
Qualifications
The ED will be thoroughly committed to YF’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, board governance, change management, and relationship management experience.
Specific requirements include:
- A degree, ideally in business or public administration, with at least 5 years of management experience; track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and working with boards and stakeholders; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of success
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
- Excellence in governance and organizational management with the ability to set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
- Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
- Strong administrative skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
Contract value and information
The ED contract value is $52,000 per year. The contract is not expected to be a full-time commitment, although there may be peaks of higher activity in some seasons. Face-to-face meetings with Executive, Board and stakeholders will be required (once pandemic health advisories permit), so a Yukon location is expected. YF does not have a physical office and is flexible in terms of contractor preferences for home office, co- working spaces or other office space solutions.
Application information
We will host a one-hour information session for all interested parties at 6-7pm on Monday, 23 November. Interested parties are expected to submit a cover letter and resume. We will contact short-listed parties only.
