Reports to: Operations Manager
Position Summary:
As the South Haul Dispatch Manager, the individual will be responsible for assigning and dispatching primarily third party and lease operator fuel trucks from Edmonton to the Yukon. The individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances with the seasonality of the work and be able to work independently whilst also being part of a team. This job does run over a typical 9-5 Monday to Friday with drivers on the road 365 days a year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process and transmit information and instruction to co-ordinate the activities of drivers, and fleet units using a variety of computer-aided communications and dispatching equipment
- Monitor phones and assist with providing information to customers and employees
- Maintenance of schedules, including updating spreadsheets and being able to effectively communicate those changes
- Work with the Transportation Manager and Local Dispatch Manager on linehaul and local dispatch when needed
- Training drivers on our electronic dispatching and safety programs
- Monitor hours of service
- Verify completed transactions and liaise with accounting department to ensure paperwork is accurate and complete
- Cross-training on other dispatch office positions to cover during vacations and absences
- Any other duties as directed as assigned by the Operations Manager
- Carry a company cell phone and be able to assist drivers throughout the week, including weekends.
Knowledge and Skills:
- 2-5 years in logistics and/or transportation dispatch
- 2-5 years managing and delegating people
- Have experience with and be comfortable using various electronic devices and software
- Knowledge of highway trucking and associated rules and regulations
- Possess excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Intermediate level computer literacy with MSOffice suite of software applications
- Must be always professional and courteous with employees, third party and customers
- Must possess strong organizational skills including time management, multitasking and remaining calm in a hectic work environment including managing a high volume of daily emails, phone calls, and enquiries
- A trucking background (Class 1 & 3) is an asset
Employment Requirements:
- A valid Class 5 driver’s Licence
- Evening and weekend availability
