While respecting and embodying Raven’s zero waste and community building philosophy throughout; the incumbent’s focus is providing outstanding customer service in the Beverage Container Refund (BCR) depot and recycling drop-off.


Duties and Responsibilities

DEPOT

  • Count beverage containers accurately and efficiently and record counts on depot chits
  • Enter beverage container counts into the till and provide refunds to customers
  • Greet customers and provide courteous, efficient customer service
  • Assist customers with questions about beverage container refunds, accepted materials and depot procedures
  • Maintain an efficient flow of customers through the depot, particularly during busy periods
  • Keep all areas of the depot, including the customer side of the counter, clean and free of clutter and hazards
  • Maintain the customer entrance, front of the depot, parking area and surrounding outdoor areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition, including removing litter, snow and ice as required
  • Keep the depot/customer bathroom clean and free of clutter and hazards
  • Remove debris from sorting tables and drainage areas regularly
  • Advise the Depot Supervisor when supplies need to be ordered
  • Empty bins and help co-workers empty their bins as needed
  • Transfer full fiber bags from the depot to the warehouse as needed
  • Empty public textile drop-off bins and move collected textiles to the designated storage area
  • Notify warehouse staff when glass bins or other collection bins need to be emptied
  • Maintain accurate till transactions and follow Raven’s cash-handling procedures
  • Report customer concerns, safety issues, equipment problems or discrepancies to the Depot Supervisor
  • Assist with opening and closing duties for the depot
  • Follow Raven procedures for Bag & Tag, commercial accounts and other beverage container programs as assigned

WAREHOUSE

  • Transfer full fiber bags from the depot to the warehouse as needed
  • Empty fiber bags from the depot into designated collection bins as needed
  • Empty public textile drop-off bins and move textiles to the designated storage area as needed
  • Assist with moving depot materials into designated warehouse storage areas as needed
  • Help keep warehouse access areas used by depot staff clean and free of clutter and hazards as needed
  • Notify warehouse staff or the supervisor when bins are full or materials need to be moved

ALL

  • Maintain clean and safe work stations and work areas
  • Attend all staff meetings as required
  • Use Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) as directed at all times
  • Communicate clearly with team and supervisor if you see a need for changes or opportunity for improvements including safety concerns or issues
  • Assist volunteers by bringing textiles from the warehouse to the store for sorting and organizing and emptying bins as they require
  • Always work together as a team in a responsible and respectful manner
  • Help each other wherever and whenever the opportunity arises

  • WHMIS certification (preferred)
  • First Aid (preferred)
