Your Role
Reporting to the Executive Director and Executive Council, the Director of Lands & Natural Resources is responsible for leading and managing Lands & Natural Resources programs for Carcross/Tagish First Nation. The role integrates the Values and Virtues of Life and ensures programs reflect all four life stages within C/TFN’s evolving circle governance model.

Duties and Responsibilities
As the Director of Lands and Natural Resources, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for a diverse portfolio of programs and initiatives that support the long-term growth and development of Carcross/Tagish First Nation. Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Implement and administer C/TFN agreements, including Final Agreement, Self-government Agreement, PSTAs
- Develop legislation, policies, and systems related to settlement land use and management
- Ensure CTFN legislative priorities are developed, reviewed, and implemented
Program Development & Integration
- Oversee land management and natural resource programs
- Develop integrated service delivery approaches across departments
- Support heritage resource development, preservation, and language revitalization strategies
Community & Intergovernmental Engagement
- Work with clan-based teams and community groups on land-use planning
- Collaborate with federal, territorial, municipal, and First Nations governments
- Support negotiation teams and intergovernmental initiatives
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Renewable Resources, or related field (master’s preferred)
- Senior-level experience in land and natural resource planning and administration
- Experience in proposal writing, legislation, and policy development
Additional Qualifications
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of C/TFN governance, history, culture, and Traditional Territory, along with strong leadership, negotiation, relationship-building, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills. They will have the ability to work effectively with multiple levels of government and governance structures, while maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. The role requires regular engagement with C/TFN Boards, Councils, Committees, and Citizens, as well as strong liaison and relationship-building skills with Yukon, BC, and federal governments, municipalities, advisory councils, and external partners. A high level of diplomacy, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships will be essential to success in this role.
