SUMMARY

The Warehouse Attendant’s Job focuses on the main tasks of Raven ReCentre’s Warehouse Department. These tasks include receiving recyclable materials from the communities, residential drop off and Raven ReCentre’s own Bottle Depot and preparing these materials for shipment to processing facilities which recycle these materials.

This position requires a wide variety of skills, including but not limited to being a versatile team player, being flexible and reliable. The warehouse attendant should also have excellent communications skills, have been trained in and familiar with safety standards, have the ability to handle mobile equipment such as skid steers and forklifts safely, have strong problem-solving skills, and have experience with handling conflicts. This is a physically demanding job that requires employees to be on their feet all day and will occasionally require lifting heavy items.
Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated experience maintaining, servicing and repairing mobile and stationary equipment are required components of this position.

The Warehouse Attendant reports to the Operations Manager and works closely with Raven’s Depot, Warehouse and Metals teams, as well as the Yard and Logistics Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

  • Familiarize oneself with Raven ReCentre’s philosophy, company rules, codes of conduct and safety rules and regulations and always implement them
  • Maintain clean work environments, free of clutter, debris and other tripping hazards, whether it be the Bottle Depot, Warehouse or Yard
  • Be proactive in terms of all safety issues to prevent accidents and encourage colleagues to do the same and assist with incident/accident investigations when required.

Labor:

  • Perform daily and regular maintenance and safety checks on all equipment in use
  • Perform maintenance and perform small repairs on (mobile) equipment as found necessary
  • Report all repairs to operations manager and/or supervisor for follow up
  • Receive diverse materials from communities, rural drop off and Bottle Depot
  • Use forklift or skid steer for loading / offloading
  • Temporary store materials in bins or bunkers (before baling)
  • Assist with baling recyclables and refundables; operate baler and/or load infeed conveyor, remove tied bales, weigh bales, tag and register bales, store bales for shipment
  • Assist with sorting and baling of textiles
  • Assist with processing diverse materials, like crushing glass, chipping wood, etc.
  • Assist with sorting and stacking beer bottles and kegs
  • Assist with bottle drives
  • Assist with collecting diverse materials in Whitehorse (paper, bottles, batteries, etc.)
  • Help to maintain a safe and clean work environment


Working Conditions:

  • Regular exposure to temperature extremes between Office, Depot, Yard and Warehouse
  • Regular exposure to waste materials (PPE provided)
  • Exposure to chemicals, odors, fumes etc. is possible (PPE provided)
  • Regular exposure to loud working environment (PPE provided)
  • Physical risks associated with work environment (PPE provided)
  • Frequent problem solving and a high degree of flexibility required.
  • Occasionally extra time, evening and weekend hours.
  • Hectic, fast-paced work environment at times.
  • Work includes physically demanding tasks, requiring the ability to lift weights up to 25 kgs.

Mechanical Maintenance:

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and routine servicing on Raven’s mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Complete daily, weekly and scheduled equipment inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems and identify required repairs.
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments within the employee’s level of training and experience.
  • Service equipment including lubrication, fluid checks and changes, filters, belts, hoses, batteries and other routine maintenance items.
  • Maintain and repair warehouse equipment including balers, conveyors, crushers, shredders and other processing equipment.
  • Assist with maintenance and minor repairs of forklifts, skid steers and other mobile equipment.
  • Identify equipment that requires outside mechanical or specialized servicing and report requirements to the Operations Manager.
  • Maintain basic records of inspections, maintenance, repairs and servicing completed.
  • Help maintain Raven’s tools, maintenance supplies and replacement parts.
  • Support general building, yard and operational maintenance as required.

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Dedicated and committed to promoting waste reduction and a circular economy.
  • Understand workplace safety requirements and legislation, including the Attendant’s Compensation & Safety Act, Employment Standards Act and Yukon Human Rights Act.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with preventative maintenance, equipment servicing, troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Ability to identify mechanical problems and determine whether repairs can be completed internally or require an outside service provider.
  • Experience working with mobile equipment, small engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components and/or industrial or warehouse equipment.
  • Class 5 Driver’s license.

Additional assets

  • Experience working in a warehouse and/or recycling operation.

Required certifications (training may be provided)

  • WHMIS certification.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C.
