Prefab Assembly Technician

Prefab Yukon is looking for dependable, detail-oriented people to join our growing prefabrication operation in Ibex Valley, Yukon.

As a Prefab Assembly Technician, you will help manufacture wood wall panels and other building components in an indoor production environment. The work combines residential framing skills with manufacturing discipline: following production drawings, preparing components, assembling and squaring walls, applying sheathing, completing quality checks, and preparing finished panels for delivery.

We hire in two classifications based on experience and demonstrated capability:

Prefab Assembly Technician I: $27.00–$30.00/hour
Developing production technician with strong hands-on aptitude, safe tool skills, and the ability to learn standardized production processes.

Prefab Assembly Technician II: $30.00–$36.00/hour
Experienced production technician capable of independently reading drawings, working across multiple production stations, and verifying quality requirements.

Carpentry apprenticeship or framing experience is an asset, but it is not required. We are also interested in candidates with construction, woodworking, manufacturing, or other practical mechanical experience.

What You’ll Do

• Assemble exterior and interior wood wall panels from production drawings and specifications.
• Prepare headers, corners, trimmers, partition connections, and other subassemblies.
• Measure, cut, identify, and stage lumber and components.
• Position and fasten OSB or plywood sheathing and complete rough openings.
• Verify dimensions, openings, squareness, materials, and fastening requirements.
• Stage materials and finished components and help maintain efficient shop flow.
• Prepare completed panels and components for transport.
• Follow safe work procedures and maintain an organized workstation.
• Cross-train across different production stations as the operation grows.

What We’re Looking For

• Safe experience with hand tools, circular saws, and pneumatic fastening tools.
• Construction, framing, carpentry, woodworking, manufacturing, or similar hands-on experience.
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic construction math.
• Ability to follow drawings, cut sheets, written instructions, and standardized procedures.
• Good attention to detail and the judgement to stop and ask when drawings, materials, or instructions do not match rather than guessing.
• Reliability, punctuality, and a strong team mindset.
• Ability to perform physical work and safely handle lumber and sheet goods throughout the shift.
• Willingness to learn multiple production functions and adapt as processes improve.

Transportation

The shop is located in Ibex Valley, outside central Whitehorse. Reliable transportation to and from the shop is required.
A valid Class 5 driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle are strongly preferred.

Assets

• Registered Carpenter Apprentice, particularly 2nd- or 3rd-year.
• Residential or commercial wood-framing experience.
• Wall-panel, truss, modular, or other off-site construction experience.
• Experience reading shop drawings, cut lists, framing layouts, or fastening schedules.
• Forklift or material-handling experience.
• First Aid certification.
• Production or quality-control experience.
