Heavy Duty Mechanic – Yard & Plant Maintenance

Location: Whitehorse, Yukon Job Type: Full-Time, Seasonal (April–December, with occasional off-season work for local candidates)

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced, self-sufficient Heavy Duty Mechanic to keep our fleet and facilities running from April through December. This is a hands-on, mechanic-heavy role covering a wide range of equipment — including trucks, the aggregate wash plant, general heavy machinery, and our batch plant — along with ongoing yard maintenance. You'll operate the wash plant occasionally, but the core of this job is diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment.

This position works with minimal supervision, so we need someone who's a strong independent problem-solver.

This is a seasonal position, running through our busy season with time off in the winter months, though occasional work may be available in the off-season for local candidates.

What You'll Do

Mechanical Repair & Maintenance

  • Diagnose and repair a wide variety of heavy equipment and machinery
  • Perform preventative maintenance on trucks, the batch plant, and general machinery
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the aggregate wash plant
  • Keep accurate maintenance and repair records

Yard & Plant Duties

  • Handle general yard work and upkeep
  • Operate the aggregate wash plant occasionally, as needed
  • Keep the yard organized, safe, and running efficiently

General

  • Work independently and use good judgment to resolve issues with limited on-site support
  • Follow all safety protocols and company policies
  • Communicate clearly with the team on equipment status and repair needs
  • Be flexible to jump between mechanical, yard, and plant duties based on daily operational needs

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a heavy duty mechanic
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable managing a wide range of equipment types
  • Willingness to pitch in on general yard work and occasional equipment operation
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of the job site
  • Good communication skills and a team-first attitude
  • Comfortable working out of town occasionally
  • Available to work Saturdays

Nice to Have

  • Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence
  • Experience with batch plants or aggregate processing equipment
  • Red Seal certification or equivalent trade qualification
  • Experience working in a remote or low-support job site environment

Why Join Us

  • Be part of a hardworking, high-performing team that takes pride in the job
  • Work with a wide variety of equipment and gain broad mechanical experience
  • Competitive pay with opportunities for overtime
  • Seasonal schedule with winters off, plus occasional off-season work if you're local
