Position Summary:

We are hiring experienced Pipelayers and Topmen to join our civil construction crews working on water, sewer, and underground utility projects in Whitehorse and surrounding areas. These are hands-on field roles focused on quality installation, safety, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

Pipelayer Responsibilities

  • Install, align, and join water, sewer, and utility piping to line and grade
  • Prepare trenches, bedding, and work areas to project specifications
  • Ensure proper jointing and sealing (gaskets, fusion, etc.)
  • Work safely in trenches, manholes, and confined spaces
  • Backfill and compact around installed pipe
  • Read and follow drawings and utility locates
  • Communicate with the Foreman and crew to maintain productivity and quality

Topman Responsibilities

  • Oversee pipe installation in the trench to ensure grade, alignment, and quality
  • Inspect materials and installation for compliance with drawings and specifications
  • Perform grade and alignment checks using pipe laser or transit
  • Document layout shots, redline changes, and as-built information
  • Direct and signal equipment operators during excavation and installation
  • Mentor crew members on proper installation techniques and safe work practices
  • Troubleshoot field issues and provide practical solutions

Requirements:

  • Prior Pipelayer or Topman experience, with preference given to candidates with sewer and water experience
  • Proficient in written and verbal English, with the ability to provide clear direction to crew members
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Physically capable of performing manual labor in an outdoor environment
  • Strong communication skills and team-focused attitude
