Barton, Wilson, UFLI tutors
Do you live in Whitehorse? Do you have early structured literacy skills? Do you have room in your life to tutor a kid or two? LDAYukon is looking for tutors for in-person tutoring on a casual basis. Structured literacy is the approach used to teach reading: i.e. Wilson, Barton or UFLI. For those who have an education background or a sincere interest in early literacy, online training and explicit work materials are provided to guide tutoring. Flexibility in teaching to a student's learning styles is always a helpful skill. A positive and affirming approach usually works best. Quite frequently students need encouragement and repetition until concepts become automatic.
Tutoring usually happens between 3:15 and 6pm weekdays, though families may request and arrange a different time. Tutoring can happen on weekends if that is possible for both parties. Tutoring sessions are most often one hour in duration though they may be shorter if attention span is short. There is a sliding scale of pay starting at $33.00 an hour. Individuals with teaching degrees are especially encouraged to apply and fees are higher with this credential.
Please send a C.V. and a letter identifying why tutoring is of interest to [email protected]
This is casual work and NOT part-time or full-time. Tutors MUST already live in Whitehorse or the surrounding area. We will only contact applicants who meet these requirements and already live in Whitehorse.
