Job Summary

The Business Support Officer is responsible for delivering comprehensive business support services to clients, with a strong emphasis on post‑lending care and ongoing client success. This includes assisting clients with advisory and training needs, personal assessments, business planning, strategic planning, marketing, and financial management.

Major Accountabilities

Client Meeting Services & Post‑Lending Care (50%)

  • Meet with clients to determine and support their business needs throughout the business cycle.
  • Listen to and review business concepts, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Discuss options and solutions to clients’ concerns, including post‑lending operational challenges.
  • Provide advice and guidance to help clients meet milestones and maintain business stability.
  • Review worksheets, templates, and business documents with clients as required.
  • Provide referrals to additional business support organizations when beneficial.
  • Schedule follow‑up appointments to monitor progress and address emerging needs.
  • Deliver structured after‑care services for clients who have received loans or program funding, ensuring they remain supported in financial management, operations, and long‑term planning.

Business Planning Services & Financial Services (20%)

  • Conduct one‑on‑one follow‑up meetings with clients who have completed or are nearing completion of their business plans to ensure continued progress and stability.
  • Reinforce business plan criteria and help clients apply planning principles as their business operations evolve.
  • Provide updated examples, templates, and resource documents to support ongoing learning and post‑launch decision‑making.
  • Maintain a schedule of regular check‑ins to monitor progress, address challenges, and support clients through the early stages of implementation.
  • Assist clients in understanding, updating, and interpreting their financial statements as their business grows or changes.
  • Collaborate with Loan Officers to ensure clients receive continued support with financial documentation, loan readiness, and referrals as needed.

Marketing, Facilitates Training Courses & Workshops (20%)

  • Support the promotion and visibility of pre and after‑care training opportunities, workshops, and refresher sessions to ensure clients remain engaged post‑program.
  • Register participants for after‑care workshops and manage fee collection when required.
  • Prepare training contract quotes and participate in discussions for fee‑for‑service after‑care training opportunities with partner organizations.
  • Develop and update training materials tailored to the evolving needs of clients in the after‑care phase, ensuring relevance and practical application.
  • Prepare manuals, guides, and supplemental resources that reinforce long‑term learning and support clients as they implement their business plan.
  • Research participants’ business operations and progress to personalize instruction and ensure after‑care training remains meaningful and targeted.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions that strengthen clients’ ongoing skills development and support the successful transfer of knowledge into real‑world practice.

Internal/External Communications (5%)

  • Oversee the creation of high‑quality written, visual, and digital content that strengthens ongoing engagement with clients in the after‑care phase and keeps internal and external audiences informed about continued program impact.
  • Lead and support management with media and public relations activities that highlight client success stories, program outcomes, and the value of long‑term support services.
  • Propose, write, edit, manage, and disseminate a full range of communications materials—including press releases, backgrounders, briefs, and speeches—that reinforce the importance of sustained client support and program continuity.
  • Develop content for newsletters, announcements, and leadership messaging that keeps clients, partners, and stakeholders informed about after‑care resources, opportunities, and updates.

Community Travel & Presentations (5%)

  • Travel to Yukon communities to provide ongoing after‑care business support services and strengthen long‑term relationships with clients and partners.
  • Schedule community meetings with organizations to promote after‑care services, maintain visibility, and ensure continued awareness of DNV’s support offerings.
  • Prepare community‑focused advertisements and outreach materials that highlight after‑care resources, client success stories, and opportunities for continued engagement.
  • Deliver presentations that increase awareness of DNV’s after‑care programs, services, and long‑term client support pathways.
  • Facilitate community‑based training sessions and refresher workshops upon request to reinforce learning and support ongoing business development.
  • Prepare presentations for conferences, events, and venues that showcase after‑care initiatives, client outcomes, and the broader impact of DNV’s work.
  • Conduct site visits with existing clients to assess progress, provide hands‑on guidance, and identify additional after‑care needs.

Key Competencies

  • Problem Solving: Problems are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation, precedent or policy. Problems are generally solved using knowledge, skills and functional expertise within general precedents and practices
  • Decision Marking: Able to make decisions in the best interest of the organization which may affect the department (loan readiness for clients) and has a high level of authority over how personal work is accomplished
  • Communication and Relationship Building: Communication with internal staff is generally across multiple levels of the organization and varying degrees of contact with external personnel (i.e. Government, Chamber Associations, First Nations Administrations, etc.)
  • Confidentiality: Able to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive issues and information
  • Organization: Able to prioritize workload to achieve deadlines, targets and results, and able set the priority of others
  • Independence: As results are typically defined and existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods. Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems.

Key Requirements

  • A Diploma in Business from a recognized educational institute and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field. An equivalent of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience providing client services such as business planning, business implementation and community economic development
  • Knowledge of business principles including business planning, operations, marketing and finance
  • Knowledge of economics and the impact of economic development
  • Experience engaging clientele by promoting sound business practice
