Teslin wellness Outreach & Harm Reduction Worker
Reporting to the Director until the Client Services and Support Manager position is filled, the Harm Reduction and Wellness Outreach Worker is responsible for planning, implementing and administering the Teslin Tlingit Council’s case management practices in providing health related care, support services, counseling and harm reduction programs to citizens of Teslin. This position is also responsible for monitoring community needs and where appropriate modifying programs in the areas of support, harm reduction, and prevention. The Harm Reduction and Wellness Outreach Worker is responsible for staying current with regional needs (TTC and Dakhka Nations) assessments, territorial and federal strategies and other relevant strategies. As well this position requires ongoing formal reporting, research and evaluation.
Main Duties:
- 1. This position is responsible for working with TTC citizens to provide outreach services and referrals to counselling services, harm reduction services, education, and treatment;
- Work with community partners (Dakhka, Blood Ties, YTG Mental Wellness Substance Use Services) to find the most effective ways of delivering best practice programming to Teslin citizens;
- Provide health related case management for clients who are struggling with mental health and addiction;
- Provide referrals to counseling services for TTC citizens in Teslin and Whitehorse;
- Work with clients to prepare for treatment and support them post-treatment upon return to the community in after-care;
- Deliver prevention education workshops and events to TTC citizens;
Education & Experience:
- Degree or two-year Diploma in Social Work, social services or community/human services fields or equivalent combination of education, training and lived experience in the field of addictions in a First Nation community.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in providing client services, case management and individual/family support. Experience working with First Nations people is essential.
- Training and/or experience in conflict resolution, communications and life skills an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant Yukon regulation and legislation.
- Understanding family dynamics of alcohol, drug addiction and family violence issues.
- General knowledge of TTC governance.
