Volunteer Advocate – End Extreme Poverty

Role Overview

Results is a nonprofit advocacy organization of passionate staff and volunteers committed to generating the political will to end extreme poverty in low- and middle-income countries. We focus our work on global health, access to quality education and economic opportunities. What does political will mean? We believe in mobilizing everyday people (our volunteers) to influence the Government of Canada. We direct our energy and efforts at government decision makers like party leaders, Members of Parliament and senators because they have the power to improve policies and make the monetary investments needed to end extreme poverty. We also raise awareness by writing letters to the editor (LTEs) and op-eds, using social media, fundraising and more. Oftentimes the first step is putting these issues on the radar — and keeping the pressure on. It might seem like a small step, but it all adds up into impact. commitment: 1 year minimum, 1-2 hours per week on average support structure: Volunteers (virtually) meet in local groups on a monthly basis and rely on their group leader(s) for guidance. FRANÇAIS Nous sommes un organisme de plaidoyer qui mobilise les gens du quotidien (nos bénévoles) pour générer la volonté politique pour mettre fin à l’extrême pauvreté dans les pays à faible et moyen revenu. Nous concentrons notre travail sur la santé mondiale, l’accès à une éducation de qualité et l’inclusion économique. Nous concentrons notre énergie et nos efforts à mobiliser les décideurs et décideuses politiques comme les chef.fe.s de partis, député.es, sénateurs et sénatrices, car ils et elles détiennent le pouvoir d’améliorer les politiques et de faire les investissements requis pour éradiquer l’extrême pauvreté. Nous faisons aussi de la sensibilisation en écrivant des lettres ouvertes aux journaux, en utilisant les médias sociaux, en collectant des fonds et bien plus. Souvent, la première étape est d’attirer l’attention sur ces enjeux et de les faire connaître — et de maintenir la pression. Cela peut sembler être un petit pas, mais les actions s’accumulent et ont ainsi de l’impact. engagement : 1 an minimum, 1-2 heures par semaine en moyenne structure de soutien : Les bénévoles se réunissent (virtuellement) en groupes locaux tous les mois et comptent sur leur.s leader.s de groupe pour obtenir des conseils. Il est aussi recommandé d’assister à d’autres appels virtuels et webinaires dirigés par les employées de Résultats. Responsibilities

Volunteers take action on a monthly basis based on our current campaign with the goal of influencing Canada’s international assistance policies. Throughout your time as a volunteer, you will:

– attend and actively participate in your group’s monthly education and action (E&A) meeting
– take action alongside fellow group volunteers that includes (but is not limited to):
– engaging with parliamentarians by writing to or meeting with them (in person or virtually)
– writing letters to the editor (LTE) or op-eds
– organizing events
– being active on social media
– fundraising
– tabling at an event to talk about Results Canada
– keep a record of the actions you take on a monthly basis

Experience and Skills

Everyone is welcome to join Results as a volunteer regardless of how much experience you may have in advocacy or global health. Results will provide you with best-in-class advocacy training paired with coaching and support so that you can raise your voice and take action.
