About the Role
ALX Exploration & Mining Supplies is looking for a hands-on Warehouse and Woodshop Supervisor to oversee the daily operation of our warehouse, shipping and receiving activities, and woodshop production.
This is a working supervisor position. The successful candidate will lead by example, work alongside the team, keep production and warehouse activities organized, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Warehousing, Shipping and Receiving
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the warehouse.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure products are properly received, stored, labelled, and organized.
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Verify received goods against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Ensure urgent and time-sensitive shipments are handled properly.
- Ensure customer orders are picked, packed, and prepared accurately.
- Prepare bills of lading, packing slips, shipping labels, and other required paperwork.
- Work with freight companies, couriers, and local carriers to arrange pickups and deliveries.
- Inspect incoming products for shortages or damage.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse.
Woodshop Production
- Oversee the daily production of wooden core boxes and related products.
- Schedule production based on customer orders, inventory requirements, and delivery deadlines.
- Monitor production output, quality, labour efficiency, and material usage.
- Ensure finished products meet ALX quality standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve production methods, workflow, and efficiency.
- Monitor raw material requirements and report upcoming shortages.
- Ensure tools, saws, equipment, and work areas are properly maintained.
Staff Supervision and Safety
- Supervise, train, and support warehouse and woodshop employees.
- Assign daily tasks and ensure priorities are clearly communicated.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and quality of work.
- Provide practical coaching and address issues as they arise.
- Ensure employees follow company safety procedures and safe operating practices.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Two to five years of relevant experience in warehouse operations, manufacturing, woodshop production, shipping and receiving, or a similar environment, or willingness to learn
- Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple orders, shipments, and production requirements..
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to safely operate warehouse and woodshop equipment.
- Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Excel.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Forklift certification and experience operating woodworking equipment are considered assets.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical work throughout the day.
- Comfortable working in both warehouse and woodshop environments.
- Ability to work around dust, noise, machinery, and changing temperatures.
