IT Technician

Total North Communications – Whitehorse

Total North is a full solution communications company operating in Canada’s North since 1972. Our focus is delivering high quality products and services, including but not limited to, wireless networks, satellite and RF systems, and IT Managed Services, for a wide variety of clients.

The IT Technician is responsible for responsible for providing services and support to our IT Managed Services client base located throughout the Yukon, including preventative and unscheduled maintenance, as well as network support for multiple technologies.

This is a shift work-based role, working on a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation at a remote site in the Yukon. While onsite, there will be a minimum of 10 hour days, with room and food provided.

This is a one year-long contract opportunity, with the potential for extension, and starting as soon as possible.

The ideal candidate will be organized, pay attention to detail, responsive, self-motivated, willing to learn, professional, and team oriented.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tier 1-3 remote support for network connectivity, wireless access, general IT related issues, and satellite services
  • Onsite support for clients including servers, desktops and printers, phone systems and networks
  • Perform backups both onsite and to the cloud for clients
  • Remote maintenance for satellite customers including connectivity, content filtering, email and VoIP platforms
  • Secure networks utilizing next generation firewalls, anti-virus and proactive monitoring
  • Assist clients with adds, moves, and changes for a variety of system platforms
  • Training clients as required
  • Accurately complete all paperwork and maintain records of work done
  • Follow company rules, policies and standards regarding Health, Safety and Environment
  • Complete network and phone system cutovers including customer engagement, project planning, and post installation documentation
  • Other related duties as assigned by manager

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with wired and wireless LANs
  • Cisco Networking, Voice, Wi-Fi. Cisco certifications are a bonus (CCNA, CCNA Voice)
  • Microsoft Server, Exchange, Office 365. MS Certifications are a bonus (MSCE)
  • Experience working on VoIP technology and IP Phone systems
  • Experience providing support for client/server environments
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new technologies
  • Experience working with terrestrial networks is a bonus
  • Proficient in written and spoken English, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including customer service skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a group or individually to meet tight deadlines
  • Valid Yukon Class 5 Operator’s License or equivalent
  • Recent Driver’s Abstract will be required upon start date of employment
  • Ability and willingness to work in remote locations is a necessity
