Reporting to the Manager, Material Management, this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day procurement of supplies and services as well as helping to manage inventory for the Yukon Hospital Corporation (YHC). This position will procure medical and business supplies, services and equipment using various methods (purchase orders, existing contracts, credit card and petty cash) and is responsible to ensure the proper financial coding and signing authority are in place. The incumbent will research product and shipping options and liaise/coordinate with vendors as appropriate. The Procurement Officer is also responsible for the accurate input of data and management of documentation related to daily purchasing activities.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Knowledge of procurement/purchasing principles, practices and methods
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and practices
  • Knowledge of computerized purchasing and inventory control systems
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Solid knowledge of research skills particularly related to sourcing products and services
  • Basic knowledge of accounting procedures and practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of CSA standards & Medical Device Licensing
  • Strong written and oral interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills – Internet purchasing on line, Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong keyboarding skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize work load
  • Ability to work in a cross cultural environment

The successful applicant will have successfully completed Grade 12 or G.E.D; have two to three (2-3) years’ experience in an office environment; a minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing procurement and material management services in an institutional setting; have a certificate in a procurement course through the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) or willingness and ability to work towards obtaining same within two (2) years of hire, and a valid class 5 Drivers license with clean driver’s abstract. An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered. Strong knowledge of Meditech would be desired.
