Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is seeking a Lands Officer. Reporting to the Manager, Lands & Resources, the Lands Officer is responsible for the process and procedures relating to acceptance and review of all applications including those requesting an interest in settlement land or those requesting an authorization for use of settlement land.

We are seeking interested candidates who have excellent oral and written communications skills, have strong analytic and research abilities, and effective time management skills to manage conflicting priorities. The successful candidate should be able to work well with minimal supervision to meet job requirements and be able to work successfully in a high performing team environment. Computer fluency, particularly with database administration, the ability to read and interpret maps and use of GIS data management systems necessary for success in this role.

Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume): Equivalent considerable training & coursework, and experience in Lands Management or Renewable Resources;.

  • Diploma in Renewable Resources/Land Technician diploma or equivalent;
  • Experience with land planning and zoning requirements relating to land use;
  • Experience in interpreting and writing documents intended for legal purposes;
  • Experience working in a digital environment and with advanced data management software;

Knowledge and skills (what we may assess/interview on):

The incumbent must be able to develop fluency and expertise in:

  • The KDFN Lands Act, Lands Regulations processes and procedures and the Yukon Environmental & Socio-economic Assessment Act; and
  • The interpretation and understanding of the Kwanlin Dün Final Agreement, the Self Government Agreement, and the laws of general application related to land administration particularly: The Land Titles Act, the Canada Lands Survey Act, the Property Assessment and Taxation Act and the Municipal Act.
  • Proficient in using advanced data management and database software.
  • Ability to interpret and apply information from maps, legal surveys, plans, and other cartographic resources accurately.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive, client-focused service.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and perform effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to gather information, conduct research, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in interpreting maps, legal surveys, plans and other cartographic information systems.
  • Ability to manage, retrieve, and maintain records using established information management practices.

Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.

Conditions of Employment: Valid class 5 drivers’ license and personal vehicle are assets Satisfactory pre-employment criminal records check.

Job Requirements: Occasional overtime including evening and possible weekend work.

*KDFN has a generous employer paid benefits package that commences after 3 months of continued employment.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day.
