Construction Finish Carpenters

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Finish Carpenter to join our team in Whitehorse. The Finish Carpenter is responsible for the final stage of construction — the detailed, visible work that defines the quality of a finished space. This includes interior trim, millwork, doors and hardware, cabinetry installation, and related finishing tasks on commercial and residential projects. The ideal candidate has a sharp eye for detail, takes personal pride in tight joints and clean lines, and can work efficiently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Measure, cut, and install interior trim including baseboards, casing, crown moulding, chair rail, and window/door surrounds
- Install and fit interior and exterior doors, including hanging, mortising hinges, and installing locksets, closers, and other hardware
- Install millwork packages including cabinetry, countertops, shelving, closet systems, wall panelling, and custom built-ins
- Install stairs, handrails, guardrails, and balusters to code
- Install wood, laminate, and specialty finish materials as required
- Complete deficiency and punch-list items to bring projects to substantial and total completion
- Read and interpret construction drawings, millwork shop drawings, and specifications
- Coordinate with site supervisors, other trades, and suppliers to keep finishing work on schedule
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and finish carpentry equipment safely and correctly
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in finish carpentry on commercial and/or residential projects
- Red Seal Carpenter certification or equivalent journeyperson status is an asset; strong demonstrated experience will be considered
- Proficiency with finish carpentry tools including mitre saws, table saws, routers, laminate trimmers, pin/brad/finish nailers, and layout instruments
- Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and finish schedules
- Strong math and measurement skills; precision to fine tolerances
- Knowledge of the National Building Code as it applies to stairs, railings, and interior finishes
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, working from ladders and scaffolding, and standing/kneeling for extended periods
