Working alongside families with children from pregnancy to 5 years of age, the Early Year Visitor delivers culturally responsive programming that blends Yukon First Nation parenting practices with western approaches to promote healthy pregnancies, early learning, and family well-being. This is not an early childhood educator position.

Success in this role requires experience supporting families and their young children, strong relationship building skills and a family-centred approach that meets caregivers where they are. Compassion is a required attribute. You will collaborate with other Early Year Visitors to deliver workshops, events and learning opportunities for expectant parents, infants, toddlers, and caregivers.

A strong understanding of – and genuine commitment to learning about the educational, cultural and social realities of Yukon First Nations is essential.

YFNED is partnered with the Martin Family Initiative (MFI); a charity that works alongside First Nations, Inuit and Métis People in Canada to help foster Indigenous children and youth’s education and wellbeing. The MFI Early Years is an innovative evidence-informed program model that seeks to honor parents as their children’s first teachers, support healthy pregnancies and infancy and facilitate successful service navigation.

Hiring preference will be given to those who identify as First Nation, Inuit, or Metis – please self-identify.
