Species at Risk Biologist - 6 months, Casual
Are you interested in supporting Species at Risk conservation in the North? CWS – Northern Region is looking to fill a full-time casual contract for 6 months (October - March), based out of Whitehorse.
Your role:
• Assist with work related to the implementation of the Species at Risk Act
• Assist with the development of recovery documents for species at risk
• Assist with conducting consultations with Indigenous partners
• Manage and analyze Species at Risk program data
• Bumble Bee specimen preparation
• Equipment management and organization
Experience:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
• Experience compiling, analyzing, and interpreting information from scientific publications, technical reports, aboriginal traditional knowledge, or primary data sources related to wildlife, habitat or ecosystems.
• Experience preparing written reports or publications on the topic of wildlife, habitat or ecosystems.
• Experience working on projects involving surveying, monitoring, or management of wildlife or habitat.
• Experience compiling, analyzing or managing biological/spatial data, including working with Microsoft Access databases and/or knowledge of open data standards
• Experience conducting statistical and/or spatial analyses using tools such as R and/or GIS
• Experience working with Indigenous peoples, Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge, environmental non-government organizations or other levels of government.
