Position Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, implementing the strategic direction, and day-to-day operational management of Tech Yukon. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief executive, spokesperson, and primary relationship builder. The role provides leadership in organizational development, financial management, government relations, stakeholder engagement, fund development, program delivery, and strategic growth initiatives.

The Executive Director works closely with the Board of directors, staff, contractors, members, government agencies, industry partners, and community stakeholders to advance Tech Yukon’s mandate and vision and ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the association.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute to and implement Tech Yukon's strategic plan in close collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Provide leadership in achieving organizational goals and advancing Tech Yukon’s mandate and vision.
  • Identify opportunities for organizational growth, innovation, and sector development.
  • Advise the Board on emerging opportunities, challenges, and strategic priorities.

Governance and Board Relations

  • Report regularly to the Board of Directors on organizational performance and progress on strategic priorities and activities.
  • Support the Board in policy development and governance matters.
  • Participate in Board and committee meetings.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the Board, staff, funders and stakeholders.

Financial Management

  • Develop the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Treasurer, for Board approval.
  • Manage the budget, monitor financial performance and ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, sponsorships, grants, and revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Provide financial reports to the board and support long-term financial sustainability planning.

Organizational Management

  • Lead, supervise, and support staff and contractors.
  • Implement board policies related to organizational management.
  • Establish and maintain operating policies, procedures, and administrative systems.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace culture.
  • Ensure operational effectiveness across all programs and services.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, industry partners, educational institutions, community organizations, and members.
  • Represent Tech Yukon at meetings, conferences, industry events, and public engagements.
  • Leverage partnerships to strengthen programs, services, and sector development opportunities.

    Communications and Advocacy

    • Serve as the primary spokesperson for Tech Yukon in coordination with the board president and board of directors
    • Promote the organization’s mandate, vision and mission, programs, and impact to members, stakeholders, funders, media, and the public.
    • Oversee marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives.
    • Advocate for the interests and growth of Yukon’s technology sector.

    Program and Contract Oversight

    • Oversee the delivery and evaluation of organizational programs and initiatives.
    • Review, negotiate, and administer service agreements and contracts.
    • Ensure projects and contracted services are completed according to approved objectives and requirements.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Post-secondary education in business, public administration, technology, economic development, nonprofit association management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Demonstrated senior leadership or executive management experience.
    • Experience working with boards, committees, and association governance structures.
    • Experience in financial management, budgeting, grant writing and fund development.
    • Experience building partnerships and managing government and stakeholder relationships.

    Skills and Competencies

    • Strong strategic and organizational leadership skills.
    • Excellent communication, public speaking, and presentation abilities.
    • Proven relationship-building and networking capabilities.
    • Strong financial and operational management skills.
    • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or business development.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
    • Knowledge of Yukon’s business, innovation, and technology ecosystem is considered an asset.

    Working Conditions

    • Based in Whitehorse, Yukon.
    • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to attend meetings, events, and community engagements.
    • Some travel may be required for conferences, partnerships, and stakeholder meetings.

    Salary, Hours and Vacation

    • Salary: $80,000 to $95,000/year
    • Hours: 37.5 hours/week
    • Vacation: 3 weeks/year
