Job description:

Are you looking for flexible, meaningful work in your community? Statistics Canada is hiring interviewers (enumerators) for the 2026 Census!

Interviewers play a key role in census operations, with the primary responsibility of collecting completed census questionnaires from respondents in person through door-to-door visits.

Census information can be used to plan programs and services that support employment, education, public transportation, and healthcare. There are approximately 32,000 census jobs available across Canada. The contract period for census jobs is from May – July 2026, depending on the position and location.

Essential Skills

A great candidate must:

  • Have strong interpersonal skills and communication abilities.
  • Be adaptable, reliable, and work well independently with minimal supervision.
  • Have organizational skills, basic computer knowledge, and attention to detail.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident (or otherwise eligible to work in Canada) with a Canadian home address.
  • Be available to work flexible hours (days, evenings, and weekends) for a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will:

  • Conduct door-to-door visits to collect census information from households that have not completed the census online
  • Provide clear explanations about the census process, its importance, and how personal information is protected
  • Accurately record and submit respondent information while maintaining confidentiality
  • Navigate assigned neighborhoods efficiently
  • Track your progress and report regularly to your supervisor
  • Attend all required training sessions and team meetings
  • Follow established protocols for challenging situations and non-responsive households
  • Complete administrative documentation as required

Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or possess a valid work permit, residing in Canada with a Canadian home address. Applicants must be the age of majority in their current province or territory of residence.
