Reporting to the Information Manager, Laboratory Services, the incumbent is responsible for collaborating with the Specimen Management Lead (SML) to coordinate the day-to-day operations of Specimen Management. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Laboratory Information Manager, Specimen Management Lead, in conjunction with the community health centers and community hospitals to support all aspects of Specimen Management services.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Knowledge of current laboratory principles and practices related to the MLA scope of practise (CSMLS).
- Knowledge of Laboratory accreditation, local and Territorial requirements.
- Working knowledge a Laboratory Quality Management System.
- Working knowledge of a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Solutions-based approach to problem solving.
- Effective problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, and time management skills.
- Proven ability to supervise, coach, and mentor staff.
- Proven ability to communicate with and deal effectively with all laboratory stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict resolution.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
- Ability to adapt to change management and process improvement.
- Ability to multitask and provide direction in demanding situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional and respectful working relationships.
- Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
The successful applicant will possess a Medical Laboratory Assistant Diploma, current certification and registration with a Canadian medical laboratory science regulator, and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered. Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification, experience with Meditech, and training in Cultural Safety and Trauma Informed Care are considered assets.
