The Opportunity

Mt. Sima is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Mechanic to maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of resort vehicles, machinery, and equipment -- small engines, snowcats, chairlifts, work trucks, building maintenance, and more. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and reliable operation of on-mountain and base-area equipment throughout the winter and summer operating seasons.


Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on:
    • Snowcats and grooming equipment
    • Snowmobiles
    • Side-by-sides (UTVs)
    • Pickup trucks and fleet vehicles
    • Skid steers and other heavy equipment
    • Chairlift, T Bar, and handletow
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues.
  • Complete scheduled inspections and service intervals.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.

Operational Support

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency repair situations.
  • Conduct daily equipment checks to ensure safe operation.
  • Assist with equipment setup, seasonal commissioning, and decommissioning.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet operational and safety standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training programs.

Inventory & Shop Management

  • Monitor parts inventory and recommend replenishment of stock to Operations Manager.
  • Maintain tools, shop equipment, and service areas.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience working on diesel and gasoline-powered equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong self-starter skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence -- YT licence or other provincial licence.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong commitment to safety and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician, Automotive Service Technician, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience maintaining snowcats, snowmobiles, and ski resort equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, welding, and fabrication.
  • Experience working in remote or northern environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable standing, kneeling, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings during the operating season.
    • Understanding the nature of our industry, additional hours may be needed during peak season such as snowmaking and Preseason, Christmas Break and Spring Break.
