Role Overview

Board Directors at Beyond Borders Youth Network (BBYN) provide governance, strategic direction, and financial oversight for a Yukon-based society supporting immigrant and refugee youth across the territory. As part of a 12-person volunteer board, directors help shape BBYN’s programs, partnerships, and long-term impact. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to community-building work that makes the Yukon a more connected and welcoming place for newcomer youth.

Responsibilities

– Set BBYN’s strategic direction and approve annual priorities
– Oversee governance, finances, and organizational policies
– Support BBYN programs, events, and community partnerships
– Attend monthly board meetings (approximately 90 minutes each)
– Contribute to working group work as needed
– Champion BBYN within the community and represent the organization at events
– Uphold BBYN’s bylaws, code of conduct, and conflict of interest policy
– Participate in collaborative decision-making and ensure organizational accountability

Experience and Skills

We’re looking for candidates with experience or skills in any of the following:

– Nonprofit governance or board service
– Financial management, accounting, or budgeting
– Fundraising, grant writing, or funder relations
– Community partnerships and stakeholder engagement
– Communications, social media, or marketing
– Program design, facilitation, or youth work

Lived experience as a newcomer, immigrant, or refugee in the Yukon is equally valued. We welcome candidates whose perspective comes from any combination of professional, community, or personal experience.

Strong communication, reliability, and willingness to engage in collaborative decision-making are essential for all directors.

Estimated Time Commitment

Approximately 5 hours per month, including:

– Monthly board meetings (approximately 90 minutes, in person or virtual)
– Committee or working group work as needed
– Occasional events, community engagements, or representation
