Job Summary:
The On-Call Cooking Support Worker provides support to meal preparation and service within the Community Kitchen Program and the Healthy Babies, Healthy Futures Program. This role helps ensure consistent delivery of nutritious meals in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
This is an on-call position with no guaranteed hours, requiring flexibility and availability on program meal days. The position supports kitchen operations during staff absences and high-demand periods, sometimes with short notice.
Working from a community-centered and trauma-informed lens, this role contributes to fostering a respectful and supportive space while assisting with food preparation, meal service, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards. The On-Call Cooking Support Worker also engages with participants and supports overall program operations as needed.
Reporting to the Kitchen Coordinator, this role assists with daily kitchen activities, program support, and occasional special events.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Food Preparation & Meal Service
a. Assist with preparing, serving, and distributing meals for Community Kitchen and Healthy Babies, Healthy Futures programs.
b. Support kitchen operations during scheduled meal days and as needed for program coverage.
c. Ensure food is handled, prepared, and stored according to food safety standards.
d. Assist with portioning and serving meals in a respectful and welcoming manner.
2. Program Support & Outreach
a. Assist with program delivery during Community Kitchen and Healthy Babies, Healthy Futures meal days.
b. Provide support during special events and community activities as needed.
c. Support overall program operations in collaboration with staff.
3. Kitchen Maintenance & General Responsibilities
a. Perform light housekeeping duties, including dishwashing, cleaning surfaces, sweeping, mopping, and laundry of kitchen linens.
b. Assist with waste management, including recycling, compost, and garbage disposal.
c. Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and program spaces.
d. Follow all health, safety, and organizational policies and procedures.
Education, Skills and Knowledge
- First Aid Certification
- Food Safe Certification
