Reporting to the Early Learning & Childcare Centre Manager, these positions are responsible for providing a safe and healthy physical environment and for creating a learning environment that meets the needs of young children. As an active team member within the centre, you will demonstrate superior program management skills and maintain good communication with parents, and will abide by childcare regulations mandated by Childcare Services to ensure the license is maintained.

Main Duties

Creates an atmosphere which is caring, stimulating and fun for children, by:

  • Planning and implementing daily an effective program incorporating such areas as routine and transition times and delivering programming to meet the needs of the children (done in a co-operation with other Childcare Workers)
  • Planning and implementing techniques and activities which stimulate children’s curiosity, inventiveness, problem-solving and communications skills using play based, exciting and fun methods
  • Planning for and implementing a daily a balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, free play/directed activities, and individual and group activities that will encourage physical, social, intellectual, emotional and sensory development at the appropriate level for each child
  • Planning and providing daily activities which facilitate an understanding of other people’s culture and value systems and encourage learning that is anti-biased and gender neutral
  • Providing positive guidance methods, such as positive reinforcements, redirection, and positive language, and uses each appropriately on a daily basis
  • Establishing realistic behavior expectations for each child and immediately addresses problem behaviors without labeling the child
  • valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Certified Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • up-to-date Immunizations including medical clearance and T.B. testing

You will have either coursework in, or knowledge of early childhood development theory, principles and practices. Along with experience working with children and excellent child supervision skills, mandatory requirements include:
