H.C. Mining Ltd. is seeking a highly versatile and resourceful Camp Carpenter and Handyman for our placer gold mining operation. This role is critical to keeping our remote camp functional and safe. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with hands-on, multi-trade experience in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. Because our operation is remote, the ability to troubleshoot, improvise, and maintain infrastructure without immediate access to town services is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Carpentry & Structural Maintenance
- Construct, repair, and maintain camp buildings, sleep shacks and outbuildings.
- Build and repair wooden structures including stairs, decking, framing, and roofing.
- Install and repair doors, windows, and interior fixtures.
Plumbing & Water Systems
- Maintain and repair camp water supply and drainage systems.
- Troubleshoot and fix leaks, blockages, and pipe damage.
- Manage and repair camp water pumps, water heaters, and filtration systems.
- Ensure proper winterization of pipes and water systems as seasonal temperatures drop.
Electrical & Power
- Perform basic electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on 12V and 110V/220V systems.
- Maintain and repair electrical fixtures, outlets, and basic wiring throughout the camp.
- Assist with the general upkeep and basic maintenance of camp generators.
General Camp Upkeep
- Perform daily preventative maintenance checks on camp infrastructure.
- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, and light machinery.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and lumber yard.
- Communicate effectively with camp management regarding necessary parts, materials, and inventory levels to avoid operational delays.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proven, hands-on professional experience in carpentry, rough framing, and general construction.
- Demonstrated practical experience in basic plumbing and electrical troubleshooting.
- Previous experience working in a remote camp, mining operation, or off-grid environment is highly preferred.
- Ability to creatively problem-solve and execute safe, effective repairs when specialized parts or tradespeople are not available.
- Strong understanding of site safety protocols and hazardous materials handling.
- Must be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), working at heights, and performing manual labor in varied, sometimes harsh weather conditions.
- First aid certification
- Class 5 drivers license required
This is a camp position with the flexibility for shift rotation. Camp accommodations include a private room, shared wash facilities and a dining hall providing 3 meals a day.
