Wage: $24.00
Status: Permanent Full-Time (35-40 hours per week)
Location: Whitehorse, Yukon
The Baker reports to the Chef & Manager of Catering and Cabin Services and is responsible for leading and supervising the day-to-day activities of the retail/baking department. This role is additionally responsible for preparing all baked goods for the Air North flight kitchen and the Black Wolf Bistro.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare all aspects of the food production for the retail/baking production according to established standards
- Bake and prepare a variety of products from scratch, including muffins, pastries, breakfast loaves, cakes and desserts for Air North flights, retail sales, and events
- Bake mixed doughs and batters
- Assist with training of new staff
- Maintain a level of food preparation consistent with business levels & leadership direction
- Maintain department equipment in good order & report any defective/damaged equipment
- Ensure opening/closing security procedures are followed to established guidelines
- Contribute to and cultivate a team environment and provide support, motivation and encouragement to peers
- Provide menu development input
- Ensure sanitary cooking conditions and appropriate safe food handling is adhered to
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract
- Combination of culinary/baker apprenticeship and experience exceeding 3 years
Qualifications/Conditions of Employment
- Experience producing quality baked goods by hand and with machinery
- Proven experience in cake finishing, decorating, and plating
- Large batch baking experience is an asset
- Interprovincial Trade Certificate or Red Seal is an asset
- Experience in maintaining records or food time/temperatures logs, food costing reports, consumption, sales and inventory
- Experience in planning and directing food preparation and cooking/baking
- Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or show proof of right to work in Canada
