We are seeking an experienced, proactive and results-oriented Supervisor to join our team in Whitehorse, Yukon. This position will lead the daily coordination and execution of student transportation services and ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation operations through effective supervision of drivers, route management, workforce planning, and compliance oversight.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining service standards, supporting employees, managing operational resources, and fostering a culture focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Transportation Operations Management

  • Oversee and manage the dispatch team to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Customer and public interaction to assist in resolving questions and concerns.
  • Assign routes and driver schedules while ensuring adequate coverage for regular, charter, and special transportation requirements.
  • Monitor route performance, responding to delays, breakdowns, weather-related disruptions, and other operational challenges.
  • Work closely with maintenance, administration, schools, and other departments to ensure transportation services operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Implement procedures and operational practices designed to improve route efficiency, service reliability, and overall fleet utilization.
  • Ensure fleet maintenance schedules are met, and vehicles are assigned as required.

Staff Leadership and Development

  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to employees.
  • Deliver onboarding and ongoing training related to safe driving practices, company procedures, customer service expectations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to support employee development and accountability.
  • Participate in recruitment activities, including interviewing candidates and making recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
  • Promote a positive and professional work environment focused on teamwork, communication, and safety.
  • Work with the GM to set performance expectations with office staff and drivers and apply discipline as needed.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all transportation activities comply with applicable territorial, municipal, and company regulations governing student transportation.
  • Monitor driver adherence to safety policies, operational procedures, and vehicle inspection requirements.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators, report on and action plans to fix deficiencies.
  • Investigate incidents, complaints, and service disruptions, preparing documentation and recommending corrective actions where necessary.
  • Support emergency response efforts and coordinate solutions to minimize service interruptions.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation required for regulatory compliance and internal reporting.

Administrative and Financial Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain operational reports, performance metrics, scheduling records, and transportation documentation.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting, cost tracking, and expenditure monitoring to support fiscal responsibility.
  • Order and maintain adequate inventories of operational supplies, equipment, and materials required for transportation activities.
  • Analyze operational data and recommend improvements to enhance productivity, safety, and service quality.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory, lead-hand, dispatch, or transportation coordination role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, allocate resources, and resolve operational issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and transportation management or dispatch software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in transportation management, logistics, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a school transportation environment.
  • Knowledge of route optimization, scheduling systems, and fleet performance reporting.
  • Solid understanding of transportation safety regulations, fleet operations, and employee management practices.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered a strong asset.
