Your Role

Reporting to the Manager of Haa Yátx’i Hidí, the Early Learning Supported Child Care Educator is responsible for providing individualized support to a child requiring enhanced or supported care within the early learning environment. The Educator promotes inclusive participation, fosters holistic child development, and implements individualized strategies to support the child’s strengths, needs, and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities

Early Learning Programming

  • Provide individualized support to promote a child’s participation in all aspects of the program
  • Foster child’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and communication development
  • Adapt activities, routines, and environments to meet individual strengths and needs
  • Facilitate positive interactions and relationships with peers and educators
  • Support inclusion by promoting a welcoming, respectful, and accessible environment for all children
  • Assist with transitions throughout the day and support children in managing changes in routine

Individualized Supports and Intervention

  • Implement strategies and recommendations from therapists, specialists, and family support plans, as appropriate
  • Assist with the implementation of behaviour support plans and positive guidance strategies
  • Support the use of adaptive equipment, visual schedules, communication devices, and other specialized tools
  • Monitor and document observations, developmental progress, and areas requiring additional support
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of individualized goals and strategies

Child Development and Care

  • Address sensitive developmental and care issues with discretion, professionalism, and cultural respect
  • Provide a healthy, caring environment that support the child’s cultural, spiritual, emotional, and physical development
  • Provide support with personal care routines, including toileting, dressing, feeding, and hygiene, while promoting independence and dignity
  • Ensure the child’s health, safety, dignity, and well-being are maintained at all times
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all centre policies, licensing requirements, and professional standards

Family and Community Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with families, Elders, knowledge holders, and external agencies to support children’s development and well-being
  • Contribute to open, respectful, and culturally appropriate communication with families regarding child progress and needs

Regulatory Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including Yukon Child Care Act regulations
  • Follow all health, safety, and licensing requirements in the delivery of care

Cultural and Land-Based Learning

  • Support cultural, language, and land-based learning opportunities
  • Incorporate culturally relevant practices into daily programming and individualized supports

Training and Professional Development

  • Participate in training related to inclusion, trauma-informed practice, and diverse learning needs
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance skills in supported childcare and inclusive practices

Essential Qualifications

  • Yukon Early Childhood Development Level 3 certification

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability

  • Familiarity with Yukon Child Care Act Regulations
  • Prior experience in Early Childhood Education
  • Experience working with First Nation children and governments is an asset
  • Ability to build trust and positive relationships with families
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong understanding of child development and culturally grounded early learning
  • Knowledge of culturally appropriate practices, particularly within C/TFN traditions

Conditions of Employment
