Reporting to the Lands and Resources Planning Manager and the Director of Lands, Resources and Heritage, the Land Use Planner is the primary technical resource for the Land and Resources Department for regional land use planning for the Yukon and BC portions of the TTC Traditional Territory. The Land Use Planner also assists with other land planning activities undertaken by the Department.

Main Duties

  • Work with TTC’s Yukon partners (e.g., Yukon Land Use Planning Council, Teslin planning commission, Yukon Government) to develop a long-term regional land use plan as per Chapter 11 of the TTC Final Agreement;
  • Lead the work with TTC’s BC partners (Province of British Columbia) to concurrently develop a long-term regional land use plan in TTC’s territory in BC that is comparable and consistent with the plan developed for the Yukon portion of TTC’s territory;
  • Assist or lead the collection, entry, and analysis of data and the creation of reports and maps;
  • As required, schedule, organize and attend meetings of the partners to coordinate planning work;
  • As required, attend meetings of the Teslin Renewable Resources Council, the Teslin Tlingit Renewable Resources Council, TTC Executive Council, BC treaty negotiation teams, adjacent First Nations and other relevant boards, councils, and committees to provide project status reports and seek input;
  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in land planning related studies, or the equivalent in education, training and experience;
  • Extensive knowledge of current principles, practices and laws of land, resource and ecological planning in northern Canada;
  • Familiarity with the Teslin Tlingit Final Agreement;
  • Knowledge of the history, culture, traditional territory, goals and aspirations of the Teslin Tlingit First Nation;
  • Familiarity with Teslin Tlingit Council First Nation, Federal, Territorial and BC Government structures, ordinances, regulations, and policies,
  • Ability to manage modest budgets in an effective, efficient manner, and
  • Experience in back-country travel in northern boreal forest;

Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in land planning related studies, or the equivalent in education, training and experience;
  • Extensive knowledge of current principles, practices and laws of land, resource and ecological planning in northern Canada;
  • Familiarity with the Teslin Tlingit Final Agreement;

Conditions of Employment

  • Yukon Class 5 Driver's License
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Willingness to complete other job-related training
