Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate inclusive, developmentally appropriate early learning programs that support children's cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative development in accordance with the Yukon Early Learning Framework and licensing regulations.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and responsive learning environment where children are respected as capable, competent, and active participants in their own learning, consistent with the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
  • Observe, document, and assess children's interests, strengths, and developmental progress to inform curriculum planning and individualized learning experiences.
  • Design engaging, inquiry-based learning opportunities that encourage exploration, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and meaningful relationships with the environment and community.
  • Foster children's communication and self-expression through storytelling, literacy experiences, visual arts, dramatic play, music, movement, and open-ended materials.
  • Encourage children's independence, confidence, empathy, and social responsibility by promoting collaboration, respectful relationships, and positive guidance practices.
  • Guide children in developing healthy habits, including personal hygiene, self-care, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and respectful interactions with peers and adults.
  • Maintain accurate observations, learning documentation, developmental records, and required reports while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with licensing standards.
  • Monitor children's health, safety, and well-being by following established health, nutrition, supervision, emergency, and risk management procedures in accordance with Yukon Child Care Regulations.
  • Identify developmental, behavioural, or emotional concerns and communicate observations professionally with supervisors, families, and appropriate community professionals when required.
  • Establish and maintain positive partnerships with families by sharing information about children's learning, development, and daily experiences while respecting cultural diversity and family values.
  • Collaborate effectively with educators, supervisors, inclusion specialists, and community service providers to support children's individual learning and developmental needs.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, team meetings, professional learning, and continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance program delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain engaging indoor and outdoor learning environments that encourage exploration, inquiry, environmental stewardship, and child-led learning experiences.
  • Plan and supervise educational walks, nature-based learning, and community experiences that extend children's understanding of their local environment and community.
  • Ensure full compliance with Yukon Child Care Act and Regulations, licensing requirements, workplace health and safety policies, and centre operational procedures.
  • Contribute to a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture while demonstrating professionalism, ethical practice, and a commitment to high-quality early childhood education.
