Join Our Team as Youth Ski Program Coordinator at the Nordic Centre!

We’re currently seeking a Youth Program Coordinator to lead our popular program for children aged 4 to 12, which welcomes around 200 young skiers each season.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting weekly lessons and activities that help children build skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of skiing. You'll work closely with volunteer coaches and families to ensure a safe, fun, and well-organized experience for all participants.

Position Status:

September - October 2026: Part-time (paid per hour).

November 1st, 2026 to March 31st, 2027: Full-time (40 hours/week).

April 2027: Part-time (paid per hour).

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program
  • Plan and prepare for the program early in the season
  • Recruit program leaders and helpers
  • Promote and attend training sessions for new leaders/helpers (provided by Cross Country Yukon)
  • Coordinate early season training for leaders/helpers (games clinic, ski lessons, etc.)
  • Support group leaders with lesson planning and equipment setup
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and participants
  • Actively participate in all program sessions, meetings, and special events
  • Coordinate rental equipment for participants
  • Serve as the main contact during group activities
  • Maintain accurate program documentation (lesson plans, group lists, communications)
  • Develop new activities and help expand the program within Whitehorse
  • Organize special activities and end-of-season events
  • Promote trail etiquette, safety rules, and teach participants to ski safely on their own
  • Complete a season-end report for the program

About You
You’re a motivated and dependable leader with a strong background in cross-country skiing and youth program delivery. You thrive outdoors—even in winter weather—and are passionate about helping young athletes develop skills, confidence, and a love for the sport.

You bring:

  • Cross-country ski instructor certification (NCCP and/or CANSI)

  • Safe Sport training (Coaching Association of Canada)

  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification (training can be provided if needed)

  • Ability to provide an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) and vulnerable sector check (RCMP)

  • Experience instructing and working with youth of various ages (4-12) and ability levels

  • Previous experience in ski instruction and/or coordinating sport or recreation programs

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills

  • Physical ability to lead ski programs multiple days (5) per week

  • Comfort being outdoors for extended periods (2 to 4 hours) in winter conditions (cut-off is -20°C)

  • Adaptability, patience, enthusiasm, and self-control

  • Proficiency in English (French or other language is an asset)
