Raven ReCentre is very interested to hear from students who are looking for a summer job. Based on performance the agreement may extend into a permanent part-time position where the student may work during school holidays and/or on Saturdays or a few hours after school.
The Bottle Depot Attendant’s Job focuses on the main task of Raven ReCentre’s Bottle Depot which is receiving, sorting and counting empty beverage containers (as per Beverage Container Regulations or BCR), which are dropped off by residents. This implies frequent contact with customers throughout a regular workday. Therefore, candidates should be able and willing to provide excellent customer service.
This position also requires a wide variety of other skills, including but not limited to having excellent communication skills, having strong problem-solving skills, being reliable and flexible, working accurately, having strong work ethics, and being a versatile team player, and working together with other departments, like the Warehouse.
The Bottle Depot Attendant reports to the Operations Manager but is supervised daily by the Depot Foreman.

Duties and Responsibilities
General:
- Familiarize oneself with Raven ReCentre’s philosophy, codes of conduct and safety rules and regulations and always implement them
- Be proactive in terms of all safety issues to prevent accidents
- Maintain clean work environments, free of clutter, debris and other (tripping hazards)
Main tasks:
- Receive empty BCR materials from residential customers, count and sort them and pay out refunds
- Assist customers with handling BCR materials if necessary
- Follow up on customer inquiries and provide information on recycling materials correctly
- Provide customers with tags for the Recycling Club
- Process BCR materials from bottle drives and other collections
- Replace full BCR collection bags with empty ones and move full bags to the Warehouse
- Collect beer bottles in cartons and palletize cartons for shipment
- Assist with keeping customer areas, including parking lot, clean and free of debris
- Participate in regular toolbox meetings
- Maintain applicable log sheets
Other tasks may include:
- Sort mixed plastic materials into different material streams
- Process household batteries
- Sort corrugated cardboard and paper and deposit in the correct bunkers
- Collect soft plastics and discard responsibly
- Work together with colleagues in the Warehouse, Yard and Metal departments
- Help to maintain a safe and clean work environment and support all other Health & Safety related activities.
Working conditions:
- Hectic, fast-paced work environment at times, especially around lunch time and end of day
- Standing and walking most of the day with few opportunities to sit down
- Work may include physically demanding tasks, requiring the ability to lift weights up to 15 kg.
- Regular exposure to temperature extremes between Office, Depot, Yard and Warehouse
- Regular exposure to waste materials (PPE provided)
- Exposure to chemicals, odors, fumes etc. is possible (PPE provided)
- Regular exposure to loud working environment (PPE provided)
- Physical risks associated with work environment (PPE provided)
- Occasionally working extra time, evening and/or weekend hours
Required knowledge and skills:
- Dedicated and committed to promoting waste reduction and a circular economy
- Understanding of workplace safety requirements and legislation, including the Worker’s Compensation & Safety Act, Employment Standards Act and Yukon Human Rights Act
- Frequent problem solving and a high degree of flexibility required
Additional assets:
- Experience working in a bottle depot and/or recycling operation
- WHMIS certification
- Standard First Aid/CPR-C
Definition of Seasonal Full Time:
- This position is a Full-Time position, covering a maximum of 75 hours on a bi-weekly basis or 7.5 hours/day
- Work schedule is from Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday
- The period of employment falls between June 1, 2026, and September 7, 2026 (Labor Day)
- Future opportunities include continuing the agreement as a Permanent Part-Time position on specific days; e.g. Saturdays, weekdays after school or on-call
