30–40 hours per week (flexible for the right candidate, including one evening per month for board meetings; occasional overtime as required)

Job Description

Little Blue Early Learning and Childcare is a non-profit, community-focused childcare centre dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and are entering a new phase focused on strengthening operations, supporting staff, and building a positive, sustainable workplace culture.

We are seeking a collaborative and people-focused Daycare Director who brings strong leadership, sound judgment, demonstrated experience in staff recruitment and performance management, and a commitment to building positive, respectful relationships with staff, families, and the broader community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee centre operations including staffing ratios, scheduling, daily operations, supplies, equipment, and nutrition planning
  • Ensure compliance with Yukon Child Care Act regulations, licensing requirements, and health and safety standards
  • Monitor program quality, staff interactions, and implementation of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Support inclusive care and collaborate with staff and community partners to develop and implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs)
  • Oversee facility safety, inspections, maintenance, and coordination of repairs and service providers
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and support community engagement initiatives
  • Supervise, coach, and support staff to meet performance expectations
  • Lead staff recruitment, hiring, supervision, and performance evaluations
  • Foster strong, respectful relationships with staff and support a collaborative team environment
  • Maintain staff records and ensure compliance with required documentation, incident reporting, and licensing standards
  • Oversee centre budget, expenses, and labour costs in alignment with approved financial plans
  • Oversee contracts, subsidy programs, and grant applications and reporting
  • Manage enrollment, registration, waitlists, and maintain accurate child and family records
  • Maintain and update centre policies, procedures, and operational documentation

Qualifications

Required:

  • Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Level 3 certification (or equivalent as recognized in Yukon)
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong interpersonal relationships and lead with empathy and professionalism
  • Strong leadership, organizational, managerial, and administrative skills
  • Experience with budgeting and financial oversight
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with families, staff, Board members, and community partners

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of management or supervisory experience in childcare or a related field
  • Experience working in a licensed childcare setting
  • Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors
  • Computer proficiency, including experience with Excel or similar administrative tools

Requirements

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last six months
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C within the last three years
  • Two references required (one from most recent supervisor or a related field)
