Board Member -Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yukon
Role Overview
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yukon (BBBSY) is seeking dedicated and community-minded individuals to join its Board of Directors. Board members provide leadership, oversight, and strategic guidance to support the organization's mission of enabling transformative mentoring relationships for Yukon youth.
As a Board member, you will contribute to organizational governance, support long-term sustainability, promote community engagement, and help ensure that BBBSY continues to meet the needs of the young people and families it serves.
Key responsibilities:
Board members work collaboratively to:
• Provide strategic leadership and oversight in support of BBBSY's mission and goals.
• Participate in Board meetings and contribute to informed decision-making.
• Review and approve organizational policies, budgets, and financial reports.
• Support fundraising initiatives and identify opportunities for resource development.
• Advocate for BBBSY within the community and promote awareness of its programs and services.
• Foster relationships with community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders
• Serve on committees or support special projects, as required.
• Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate integrity in all matters relating to the organization.
Experience and Qualifications
Applications are welcomed by Yukon residents who are interested in community service and committed to supporting positive outcomes for Yukon youth through mentorship. Previous Board experience is not required.
Ideal candidates will:
• Demonstrate an interest in contributing to their community through volunteer leadership.
• Be able to dedicate a few hours each month to Board participation and related activities.
• Bring professional experience, community knowledge, or lived experience to strengthen the organization's work.
• Be willing to collaborate, share perspectives, and support BBBSY's mission and values.
Experience in governance, fundraising, finance, communications, education, youth development, or community engagement will be considered an asset.
Time Commitment
Board members can expect to dedicate approximately five hours per month, including:
• Attendance at monthly Board meetings (approximately 1-2 hours)
• Participation in occasional fundraising and community engagement activities
• Attendance at the Annual General Meeting
• Service on committees or special initiatives, as needed.
Eligibility :
Applicants must:
• Be residents of Yukon and
• Successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and any other screening requirements in accordance with BBBSY policies.
