This position is at the L06 level with an hourly pay range of $35.94 - $45.47

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities and Security, the Building Technician repairs, maintains and operates the heating/air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, Hydroclave, fire protection, boilers, medical gas and other related systems, equipment, and services. The incumbent will be required to work at all YHC facilities including, but not limited to, the Watson Lake Community Hospital, Dawson City Community Hospital and Whitehorse General Hospital as well as any auxiliary buildings including all YHC staff housing.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical repair tools and techniques
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize skills in welding, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and HVAC
- Knowledge of safety and health regulations and guidelines
- Knowledge of principles of operation, control, and maintenance of HVAC systems and Medical Air Systems in order to perform maintenance and repair functions on hospital equipment
- Good communications skills, both written and oral
- Good computer skills
- Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to organize, schedule, prioritize job tasks, and adapt to workload variances and determine parts that are required.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare comprehensive and concise reports
- Ability to interpret technical and numerical information
- Ability to deal with constant interruptions, distractions, time pressures, concurrent demands and staff pressures
- Cross cultural awareness
The successful candidate will have 4 Years Experience in operating and maintaining mechanical equipment in a building or plant maintenance position preferably in a healthcare setting. A Valid Class 5 Yukon driver’s license with clean abstract. Red Seal Trade ticket in Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Millwright, Refrigeration, HVAC, Instrumentation, Gas Fitter, Power Engineering Certification of any class, HVAC or Building Operator Certification. An equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience may be considered.
