Lead Performance. Build Community. Shape the Future of Swimming in the North.

Whitehorse Glacier Bears Swim Club (WGB) is seeking a dynamic and community-minded Director, Swimming & Engagement to lead our competitive programs and guide the continued growth of swimming in the Yukon.

This is more than a coaching role. This is a leadership opportunity.

You will shape athlete development, mentor coaches, strengthen club culture, and influence the long-term direction of the organization.

If you are a values-driven leader who thrives at the intersection of high-performance sport and community building, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

Whitehorse Glacier Bears is a rapidly growing, community-focused swim club supporting athletes from entry-level through provincial qualifiers and aspiring national and international competitors.

Our programs emphasize both competitive excellence and meaningful lifelong connection to sport.

As Director, Swimming & Engagement, you will lead all swim programming, coaching direction, and member experience. Working within a collaborative leadership structure, you’ll focus on what matters most: coaching excellence, team leadership, and athlete and family engagement.

You will:

  • Lead and deliver athlete-centered swim programming
  • Coach senior athletes (Train-to-Compete / Train-to-Win, Provincial – National level athletes)
  • Mentor and develop the coaching team
  • Build strong relationships with athletes, families, and community
  • Contribute to long-term club development

About You

You are a skilled coach and confident leader who values both performance and people. You bring structure, energy, and accountability to your work, and are passionate about athlete-centered development, strong team environments, and meaningful community connection. You communicate effectively, lead collaboratively, and are motivated to contribute to something long-term and impactful.

You also:

  • Hold an active NCCP Level 2 Certification
  • Have experience coaching competitive swimmers at the provincial, national, or higher level
  • Possess a strong understanding of athlete development pathways, including the Appropriate Athlete Development Model
  • Can provide a seasonal training plan demonstrating your coaching philosophy and approach
  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to Safe Sport principles
  • Have flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
  • Are able to travel within Canada and internationally
  • Can provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance prior to hire
