Salary: C/TFN Wage Scale Level 1-4 ($21.59-$34.46p/hr)

Your Role

Reporting to the Community Farm Manager, the Farm Labourer is primarily responsible for assisting with growing and harvesting flowers, plants, shrubs, trees and crops. This position is also required to assist with the care for farm animals and maintain farm structures and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with preparing soil and seed beds for planting
  • Loads, unloads and transports plant/seed shipments and gardening products
  • Assists with pruning, weeding and controlling pests to ensure healthy plant development
  • Feeding and watering livestock
  • Clean out livestock pens and facilities
  • Moves animals around the farm
  • Assists with the maintenance of farm structures and equipment
  • Ensures animal care meets territorial and federal requirements
  • Other related duties

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of soil, germination, planting, etc
  • Must be able to use gardening and farming tools, operate farm equipment and have basic knowledge of maintenance/repairs for farm equipment and structures
  • Experience working on a farm, nursery or in a green house

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability

  • Knowledge of soil, germination, planting, etc.
  • Willing to learn animal care methods and techniques
  • Must be able to use gardening and farming tools, operate farm equipment and have basic knowledge of maintenance/repairs for farm equipment and structures
  • Must be able to bend and lift up to 50lbs, work in all weather conditions
  • Valid class five drivers license is preferred
  • Experience working on a farm, nursery, or in a greenhouse
  • Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time under all weather conditions
  • Evening, weekend, and/or overtime hours may be required.
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps.

Conditions of Employment

  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent considered an asset
  • Class five drivers license
