Yukon Girls Rock Camp – Program Coordinator

Reporting to the Dawson City Music Festival’s Executive Director and in collaboration with the Yukon Girls Rock Camp Committee, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning and implementation of an annual 6-day youth day camp. Duties and responsibilities include: event promotion, data management, creating camp schedule, scheduling staff and volunteers, volunteer recruitment, youth supervision, liaising with community partnering agencies, preparing final funding reports and creating recommendations for future camps and programs.

Yukon Girls Rock Camp welcomes women and gender non-conforming candidates aged 19 years and older to apply, who are strongly self-motivated, task-oriented, and who feel comfortable taking initiative and working autonomously with direction from the organizing committee.

About Yukon Girls Rock Camp

Yukon Girls Rock Camp aims at amplifying girls and gender non-conforming youths’ voices through rock music for healing, growth, and change. YGRC is part of a world-wide movement of Girls Rock Camps in which campers learn an instrument, form bands, and write an original song to perform at the Dawson City Music Festival main stage during our flagship summer festival. In addition to music instruction, YGRC empowers youth with workshops on gender issues, media literacy and community activism. YGRC is a space where girls and gender nonconforming youth can express themselves in a safe and empathetic environment.

Schedule and Remuneration

Term: May 15 - Sept 15, 2017 (16 weeks)

Starting wage: $16.00/hour

This is a seasonal, part-time position with up to 20 hours per
week with additional hours between July 10-28, 2017.

Duties include:

  • Working closely with the organizing committee and Dawson City Music Festival staff, attending regular meetings and communicating effectively
  • Administrative responsibilities, data collecting and management Fundraising, event organizing & grant-reporting
  • Marketing and program promotion through social media, and creating marketing materials (posters, advertisements, Facebook and Instagram posts)
  • Coordinating supplies and instruments, loading in and setting up equipment and music gear
  • Working with partnering organizations, committee, and effectively utilizing available resources
  • Recruiting volunteers, scheduling volunteers and staff, assisting with training and orientation
  • Supervising youth during camp week
  • Completing tasks in an organizing and timely manner with attention to detail

Qualifications, Experience & Abilities

  • One year experience in a leadership/organizing role with a Girls Rock Camp program preferred
  • Commitment to empowering women, girls and gender nonconforming people with anti-oppressive, feminist & inclusive values
  • Previous experience working with youth, and demonstrated program leadership a must
  • Highly organized, resourceful and detail orientated, able to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Able to design systems and approaches to tasks (such as volunteering, registration, etc) and maintain them
  • Demonstrates high level of self-directed work ethic, strives to perform at their best at all times
  • Problem solver with a ‘can-do’ attitude; able to seek out practical solutions to problems and needs using available resources
  • Proficient with google programs: docs, sheets; able to create and maintain collaborative documents within the cloud
  • Able to update and maintain website; proficient with Wordpress
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite and Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) considered and asset
  • Knowledge setting up sound gear, instruments, amps, etc. an asset

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift up and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be available to work extra hours between July 10-28, 2017
  • Must provide a clear vulnerable sectors check
