Term Full Time Position – 75 hours biweekly

May 1, 2017 to March 30, 2018

The Communications Analyst works to support the provision of safe and excellent hospital care through the implementation of strategic communication initiatives for the Yukon Hospital Corporation (YHC). The analyst develops initiatives based on hospital priorities, assists in managing a broad, complex array of communications issues and provides a full range of communications functions and services for the hospitals.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent knowledge of marketing techniques and corporate communications principles and practice, including knowledge of communications planning and implementation
  • Creative thinker with knowledge of graphic design and the print production process
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in First Nations issues and Yukon politics
  • Knowledge procurement processes, contract development and administration
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills in order to meet regular critical deadlines, juggle different priorities and incorporate instructions from more than one source
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong technical skills especially with Microsoft Office computer software and programs
  • Good conflict resolution, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to conduct research and information gathering from a variety of sources
  • Ability to be self-directed, be assertive and prioritize workload
  • Ability to deal with a number of highly stressful situations
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in all dealings with patients, families, staff, media and other communication partners
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and reliability
  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity

The successful candidate is required to have a degree or diploma in journalism, communications or related field, a minimum five (5) years of experience working in a journalism or marketing/communications role. Experience in a health care or hospital setting would be considered an asset for this position. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.
