IS Support Technician

Whitehorse Full Time

We are currently accepting resumes for the full-time IS Support Technician position located in Whitehorse, YT.

Duties:

  • Carries out on-going technical support functions in an environment with a mix of Hardware, Operating Systems, and Applications.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network hardware equipment and software failures and provide resolution and/or escalation in a timely manner.
  • Performs ongoing analysis and monitoring of systems to proactively diagnose and respond to incidents and problems.
  • Provisions and installs new physical and virtual servers.
  • Documents, installs and supports a variety of operating systems and application software.
  • Performs analysis of system and service performance and provides recommendation for upgrades to Systems Configuration Manager.
  • Performs operating system software upgrades, such as installing new hardware/software, apply application and security patches, etc.
  • Carries out routine maintenance such as applying patches, performing backups and restores, managing disk space, and responding to security concerns.
  • Provide 2nd level support for Help Desk and Desktop Support technicians.
  • Participating in special projects and technical review committees.
  • Working in a team environment with cross departmental interaction.
  • Contributes to Customer Experience, Operations Service Delivery related continuous performance improvements.
  • Commits to continuous learning of new technologies and keeping skills up to date.
  • Cross trains others in area of competency.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as tracking software licenses, updating logs, using change control systems, producing documentation, etc.
  • May be required to perform work in shifts.
  • Qualifications:

    1. 2-year technical computer related college diploma from a recognized institution with 4 years experience in similar roles.

    2. Must have extensive experience in at least one and working knowledge of one more of the following Operating System:

  • Sun Solaris OS;
  • Windows 2012 and 2016; and
  • Linux (CentOS or RedHat) – other variants of Linux will be considered.
  • 3. Extensive knowledge of at least one and working knowledge of at least one more of the following Applications:

  • DNS, DHCP Windows, ISC2;
  • Windows Active Directory;
  • Blackberry Messaging platform;
  • Exchange Online
  • Other Malware and SPAM reduction products;
  • Working knowledge of the following technologies:
  • NetAPP(SAN, NAS);
  • CISCO Servers and Networking (Routing and Switching);
  • Virtualization VM-Ware ESX platform
  • HP Backup services (Data Protector)
  • DNS & DHCP (Windows 2003, ISC2)
  • 4. Demonstrated knowledge of LANs and network routing, switching (VLANs) as it applies to providing service to end users.

    5. Must have good hands-on and analytical troubleshooting skills.

    6. Must be able to work under stress and meet critical deadlines.

    7. In order to qualify, the incumbent will be required to pass an examination to evaluate their qualifications.
